We visited Huangshan in the Golden Week and stayed 2 nights at XiHai hotel. Of course during these weeks the prices go up and the hotel gets very crowded. Nevertheless we had a good experience. Some of the staff speaks English, which is really helpful. The room we had was small but ok, with comfy bed. The food is Chinese buffet, pricey and quality is so so. But they have some options and considering the logistics to get everything up the mountain it’s not bad. They have down jackets you can use in case it gets cold, for instance during sunrise and sunset - we did not need them but it’s nice they are provided for in the room. The hotel is overlooking a valley so quite a good view, and a outdoor terrace. Indoor there is a small shop, Costa Coffee, a bar and spa. We stayed 2 nights which was relaxed but also more than enough to explore everything. If you are pressed for time 1 night could be enough, but you will see a bit less (unless you have the stamina to hike up and down the stairs for hours)

We, 2 adults & 2 teens, stayed here for 2 nights in 2 rooms in July 2020. I think this is the best hotel on the mountain. The A building is the new building and the B wing (old hotel) was not open when we were there, likely due to decreased numbers from Covid. The new A wing is nice. They upgraded one of our rooms to a large suite. Both rooms were good - clean, spacious, very large bathrooms, no mould or mildew seen or smelled. Shower was large, good pressure & hot water. There did not appear to be AC in the rooms only heat. We were very warm from walking up the mountain and when we got to the room they had a space heater blasting out heat! It was 27C outside! 🤷‍♀️ Quickly unplugged that and opened the windows. Even though there wasn’t AC, the open windows & cool(ish) mountain breeze cooled the room down nicely. Breakfast was okay - mostly Chinese food, but they did have fried eggs, toast, PB & jam & coffee. We did eat the buffet dinner 1 night and it was barely okay and so expensive! Bring lots of snacks to the mountain. There is a convenience store past reception to purchase water, juice, beer & (Chinese) snacks. We liked the location of this hotel. We went to Danxia Peak for sunset & sunrise, only 20 mins walk away. Brightness peak is an hour walk away (straight uphill). The Xihai Grand Canyon is close to hotel as well and should not be missed, even the first view point is spectacular and only 10 minute walk from hotel. So glad we choose this hotel, at this point in time is the newest hotel on the mountain. The other hotels looked quite old from the outside. The hotel wasn’t cheap, but you have to remember that they hike everything up the mountain! Definitely think it is worth it to stay 1 night on the mountain, but 2 nights is even better.

We stayed in the old wing and, if we ever stayed here again, we would definitely book the new wing. In our building, the corridors smelt musty and smoky, there's no view from the room and the bathroom, although providing all you needed was small and was a pre-fabricated compartment within the room. Fortunately we found the plug-in radiator early on, as the room felt damp and was cold even though the outside temperatures were very warm. The only place to eat up the mountain is in the hotel (or at another hotel, I guess). The

There are only a handful of hotels on the mountain, all owned by the same company, some currently closed for renovation, so there are few choices. Location: In the “back mountain” section of Huangshan, it is well placed near the Xihai Grand Canyon and within 30min’s hike from the nearest cable car or 1.5 hours’ hike from the more popular Yunge Cable car. Rooms: - Beware when you book, there are 2 buildings - Block A (also called the South Tower) which is the newer one, Block B is relatively older and dilapidated. Prices naturally differ. - Then there are suites, deluxe, superior, and standard rooms. Photos in this review are of the Deluxe rooms in Block A on a high (but not top ie 7/F) floor. Best rooms are on 5th and 6th floor, as the lobby is on 4/F, the top floor has slanting and low ceilings. - Rooms in Block A facing Block B have a better open view, ie odd room numbers; those with even numbers face a wall to the back of the hotel. However, it’s very noisy, as the podium outside is wooden and people with walking sticks going in and out (and pass) the hotels make a raucous noise. Windows have poor sound insulation. Bring earplugs if you have trouble sleeping. - Rooms are clean, sheets crisp and white, more international 4-star Standard than 5-star though. Hardware 4-star, service 3/4-star if you speak Chinese and you’re nice to the staff, but they’ll have trouble understanding English well. We’re in the mountains after all. Issues to be prepared for: - Due to shortage of water, there’s only running water supply between 05:30-9:30 and 17:30-22:30. There’s no water at other times. - Water is a slight yellow tinge. The water is from the mountains, not sure if it’s grit or what. - There’s no minibar and no water supplied in the rooms. There’s a shop on the lobby level that sells bottled water CNY12 for a 570ml bottle) or soft drinks at CNY20 for a 220ml can. - All 3 meals are very Chinese/local. - Not much to do after dark, drinks at the bar are expensive (CNY70 for a shot of spirit, CNY20 for a soft drink). - To conserve energy, lights in public areas are very dim at night after 10pm, corridors outside room almost pitch dark. There are supposedly torches in the room but I couldn’t find them. Good I had my headlamp (for early morning hiking) with me, used it in the hotel more than hiking. Summary: It really is a decent hotel given this is the mountain and everything has to be delivered by these poor men carrying everything up the mountain. I have not written more, check out my photos, pano mode for the rooms, usual mode for others, taken with my phone.

There are only a handful of hotels at the top of the mountain so supply is limited for the thousands of daily visitors. Hotels are not cheap and tend to sell out so booking in advance a must. All the hotels at mountain top are owned by the state and all the resources being used at the hotel are carried by people up the mountain. It is pretty amazing when you know that everything to construct the hotel was transported manually. Xihai hotel has 2 wing. A new wing and and old wing. Building A is the new wing. Be careful when you book. Don’t expect much of a window for the basic room. Not even the obligatory bottled water in the room. There is a small shop at the lobby to buy water and snacks. Once you are at the hotel, you are locked in to eat there as there are no other alternatives. Remember all the people in the few hundred rooms in the hotel are the same so breakfast and dinner can be a bit chaotic. We choose to eat early at the Chinese restaurant and opted for a la carte instead of buffet. While we expected poor quality and taste, the food was piping hot and tasted ok. A pleasant surprise. There is a lobby bar but as the service person is busy with dining area and bar, you might have to rely on self service at times. Don’t expect very friendly service at lobby as they are not in need of customers so there is no need to be friendly and most guests only stay one night. There are some amenities in the room but very basic. There are not even spoons to make your instant coffee. We had to use the end of the toothbrush. There are heavy coats in the room in case of sudden change of weather. There are also foot massage service in the hotel. This is good if you spend the day walking and need some muscle relaxation. The girls are pretty good. It is what it is. Don’t expect much and you might be pleasantly surprised. Choices are limited at top of the mountain.

We stayed in the new section which offered a very comfortable bed and furnishings. We were on the 7th floor and there were small windows due the overhanging eave. But that did not matter since all that could be seen outside were clouds! The buffet dinner was cold when we ate at 7:30 but adequate. Breakfast was also uninspiring but adequate. The location close to the spectacular west canyon is a plus. All in all, this was a far more pleasurable experience than we expected near the top of the mountain.

We got a non-smoking room but there is zero enforcement in ensuring no smoking in other rooms. There is zero waking moment in the evenings where there is no one smoking. Do not book unless you enjoy smoking all night long yourself.

The reviews said that this hotel lays on the top of the mountain. Not true! You still have plenty to climb:) I do not mean to be negative. This hotel was really far up on the Yellow mountains, so I am really happy about the location. Then if you want to have a great view of the sunrise/set you will have to climb an additional 15-20 minutes walk. But it is worth it. We agreed that this was the best sight with mountains we have ever seen. We have been around and seen a lot of them so trust us, this is amazing. The hotel was very nice. In the Chinese way of measuring 4 stars I think. Doesn’t mean that it compares to eu standard. But this was a very nice hotel. The room led are not big but enough as you do not spend a lot of time there. Two thick jackets were waiting for us, even if we were there late summer. Mornings on the mountain top can be chilly:) Two restaurants which of one served a great Asian buffet. Breakfast is very Asian also. If you have a problem with this prepare. But they have the basics, bread, eggs, fruit. And then the Asian dishes are also good. WiFi worked fine, but it is the same censorship even if we are high up on the mountain. Mountain View, doesn’t necessarily means that you have a view of the mountains, it could also be that you live in the block B and look straight in to the mountains from 1-3 meters which is not really the same thing. Especially as you do not really know if this is the mountain or not as fences, grass and trees are in the way. But as as I said, you should not spend your time at the room! I didn’t take a lot of pictures of the hotel of course, but some showing the climb to and from. And then the spectacular view in the morning

We stayed at this hotel for one night as part of an organized private tour of the Huangshan area. Given the reviews here, we had some mixed feelings regarding our decision to spend a night on the mountain, but the hotel gave us no reason to regret it. We had a room in the new building, and while the room had no view whatsoever, it had everything else we needed for a relaxing night. The room was of adequate size, clean, modern, everything worked fine, the beds were comfortable and soft, and there was no cigarette smoke odour - all this cannot necessarily be taken for granted in many 5 star hotels in China with much less challenging locations.... The dinner buffet and the beverages were adequately priced for what was offered, in particular given the location, and the breakfast buffet was of good quality and variety as well. All in all, we were pleasantly surprised.

Horrible hotel. Cheats! Took full payment for the hotel but gave a room in a different building. It’s not even worth a 2 star .very shabby and 3rd class . Room is like a box with no view . Beihai looked much better location wise and cleanliness wise . At xihai it’s like checking in to a hotel but they make you stay in an old dilapitbuilding next door . Just not acceptable
