Stayed 3D2N at the inn. Day 1 - your around the village. Day 2 - visit Mt. Huangshan. It was a homely and comfortable stay. Furthermore, 程姐 was a good host too! At night, we ordered food from her and it was delicious but a little too salty for us. To get there, u have to arrange a driver from the inn (est. RMB180) and he will pick u up from 黄山北站. After which, u have to pay an entrance fee of RMB104 to Hongcun Village (UNSECO site). It’s worth the trip!

Madam Chen was the most wonderful host we encountered in our entire 12 days trip from Suzhou to Huangshan. We really felt at home at her place, which was clean and spacious. Don't miss out on her cooking.

Located in a backstreet almost in the heart of Hongcun village there are no motor cars to disturb you, only passing cyclists or the odd donkey and cart or locals going about their daily business. The street outside is narrow and the house is old, however internally it has been refurbished to a very high standard in local character - very comfortable bedrooms, recently refurbished and modern. Staying here you feel like you are living as part of the community. Rooms overlook the splendid and varied architecture of surrounding rooftops. Mdm Chen is very welcoming, meeting us at the car parking lot and escorting us through the maze of narrow streets to her inn. We ate in on one night and were introduced to the local cuisine with fresh wild vegetables, stewed bamboo and the most wonderful whole chicken soup - Ena Baxter eat your heart out! Breakfast can be taken at the inn but Mdm Chen suggested also trying a neighbouring street breakfasteree - which was sensational too. Highly recommended for an authentic stay and great hospitality.

This inn is a delightful surprise to travellers used to modern comfort and yet want to experience the ambience of an ancient town. Our skepticism vanished into the air when we stepped into the inn. It is very clean and the furnishing is aesthetically done in the traditional way, with the furniture blending into the ancient building. Our room with balcony is yet another great choice as it is the only room on the right side of the house. A small flight of stairs up and we step into history as we glaze at the ancient roofs outside the balcony. There is even a rocking chair to sit as we sip our tea and watch students sketching and drawing just beyond the walls. Do not miss the dinner at Dunyuantang as Mdm Chen cooks very well. She will recommend dishes and is definitely not pushy at all. We had the local fish delicacy, bamboo stewed with pork and a dish of wild vegetables. All ingredients were sourced locally and in season, hence it's fresh and delicious. We had the local chicken cooked with vermicelli for lunch the next day and again it was excellent! We speak Chinese so it is easier to communicate but Mdm Chen is also very apt with translation tool and there shouldn't be any problem for non-chinese speakers -- just type your request into her phone! Do note though that the sounds of the local community waking up early in the morning is unavoidable but then again, when one chooses to stay in the midst of an ancient town, noises such as are quite priceless especially in our room, we could hear the old folks waking up and talking as they go about their morning routine. Plus it's a good time to get out and enjoy the sights of Hongcun in the early morning ahead of the never-ending stream of visitors to this town. Tip: As independent travelers, we arrived at Huangshan North station and took a taxi (the stand is near KFC restaurant on the right upon exit) into Hongcun. The taxis are plentiful and metered and there is even a display board to show approximate distance and prices to different attractions. Fare to Hongcun is about CNY180. There are also regular hourly shuttle buses to Hongcun and various locations. All attractions in Yi county allow for discount entry tickets if you are sixty years and above, so have your passport handy to enjoy 50% discount as the fees are a little expensive - CNY104 for Hongcun alone. Tickets are valid for 3 days. We move around in a private hire car recommended by Mdm Chen. Driver Jiang is very good and his car is well maintained. Transfer between towns are not expensive and you can book the driver for a day to go around too. Prices are pretty standard.
