When we booked we paid for breakfast as well. Only until I asked what time is breakfast served then the receptionist mentioned the ‘chef’ was in hospital so there is no breakfast available. Then I got my money back. If I didn’t mention anything she wouldn’t have said anything. When we left to go to the airport I asked if she could arrange a taxi for us and she said we can pick one from the street. Not very good customer service. The room was basic but it was cheap as we just needed a place for one night. However the receptionist could be a little more friendly.

We stayed here for 5 nights whilst exploring the nearby UNESCO world heritage sites. We arrived very late at night and Kevin's smiling face was a very welcome sight. Our room was clean and had everything we needed - comfortable beds and a lovely hot shower with great water pressure. The location is excellent and there are many good restaurants in the side streets off Tunxi main street. There's a McDonald's in the city square. The hostel does not have a restaurant; only a bar, so ignore the large poster near the lift! Also note that the entrance is in the side street just before you reach the hostel. You can also access reception via the shop in front if it's open.

Lovely hostel opening directly out onto the must-see Tunxi Ancient Street (take care: do not confuse with the other hostel of similar name! This one leads out to the pedestrian-only Ancient Street, the other hostel is further up on an adjacent normal road!). Despite the vicinity to the street, noise was not an issue, at least not where we were situated (I can't speak for the other rooms). We had booked one Deluxe and one Superior room, which were both located on the top floor. Both rooms were clean and provided more amenities than we would have expected from a youth hostel. Also, they looked exactly as the do on the pictures! The hotel doesn't have a real lobby - rather, it opens out into a tea shop. The bar area more than compensated that, though: with a large wooden terrace right above the street, it provided a wonderful ambiente for sitting at basically any time of the day. The drinks were good, and the breakfast was okay, served with a helping of very good and fresh fruit. Also, the bar staff was lovely! The only real (relatively minor) issue we had was that the staff at the reception seemed rather uninterested. It was difficult to get any sort of information out of them, despite the language barrier not really being a problem. Overall a minor flaw, seeing as both check-in and checkout went smooth overall. To sum it up: great rooms, fantastic location on Tunxi Ancient Street, great value for money, can absolutely resommend!

This place was just OK in my opinion, the staff could speak English quite well, but I sometimes felt like we were bothering them with our questions, they would rather be on there phones. The rooms were big and the bathroom had a shower cubicle unlike a lot of places in China. The room was quite cold, the heater wasn't really good enough for the size of the room. There was mould on the wall in one place and moss growing along the skirting board in another. The bathroom smelled like sewage, that may have been because the toilet blocked easily and the shower didn't drain, which meant it over flowed...wet floor. They did have a good bar area with pool table, though I feel like the karaoke went on a little too long in to the night.

great location in a really cute local street with many shops. the rooms are very decent for the price, comfortable bedding, hot water works event though sometimes it needs up to 15min to heat up. staff is friendly and willing to help but the language barrier is a real issue and requires a lot of patience. internet is available but slow, so you cannot make any bookings for instance. breakfast is okay for the price (30Yuan per person), the bar is lively in the evening (karaoke) bus offers and day trips available to go to Huangshan Mountain, Xidi etc. overall good experience that we can recommend.

Stayed in this hostel for 2D1N with my wife the night before we hike Huangshan mountain. My experience can be summarized as below: What's impressive: - Hostel located at the historic place right on the busy Old Street in Huangshan. It serves as a good base before exploring Huangshan mountain. - Plenty of food options nearby hostel just along the Old Street. - Complimentary WiFi coverage throughout the hostel. - Hostel has a good common area embedded with the restaurant / cafe / bar on the 1st floor that comes with a pool table, foosball, darts and live band playing on selected days to entertain the patrons. What to expect: - The hostel shares the front lobby with a tea shop, hence no common area at the lobby for the guests. - In-room toilet is small but adequate, no toiletries. So bring your own! What can be improved: - The walls are relatively thin and you can pretty much hear doors slamming shut and people talking outside or next door if the voices are raised. - Walkways to the rooms are pretty dark. Would be good if can be brightened. Final Verdict: - One of the best hostel I've stayed in while traveling in China. Cheap, clean and efficient. Value for money. - Value for money, strategic location to be used as a based to roam around Huangshan. - Will reconsider this hostel if I happen to revisit Huangshan in the future for its convenience.

Amazing place right in center of old town, I arrived very late so didn't get to see much of old town. This hostel is nice and clean and well worth the price. I took a bed in four bed room and would recommend that. Their bar was also amazing, although it was almost empty the time I went but can be a very nice hangout place, it had a pool table, a swing on the terrace. There was bit of construction going around but that didn't bother me. I wish I could spend more time here, will try to be back.

This great little hostel is situated above a tea shop in Tunxi's Old Street. A great base before the hike up Huangshan, the hostel is fairly easy to find, and you can catch a bus to Old Street for a couple of yuan from Huangshan Bei (North) train station (30 minutes away). A friend and I stayed in a private deluxe double room which was massive, super clean and had lovely views over Tunxi for under US$30 a night. The staff at the hostel were very friendly and although English was a bit of a struggle at times, there was always the utmost effort to help. An early morning bus to the base of Huangshan can be booked through the hostel or you can easily get to Hunagshan train station to catch a bus to the mountain later on in the day. We stayed a night at the top of Huangshan and the hostel looked after our luggage overnight so we were able to take just a small backpack with us. They even organised a packed breakfast for us to take up the mountain. The hostel has a bar and a restaurant which had the potential for having a great atmosphere, but with so many great restaurants in and around Old Street, evenings out were a much better option. The hostel also offers bikes for hire and if you get the chance to hire a bike for a couple of hours, it's such a lovely ride down the river on a sunny afternoon. The only downer for this place is that the walls are ridiculously thin so it was very noisy through the night with doors of other rooms slamming shut, not ideal when you're planning to get up at the crack of dawn. Still a great place to stay and would highly recommend it to anyone.

An excellent place to stay, and cheap as well. The historic building with its interior courtyard is amazing, almost like a museum. The rooms are very cozy and charming (although they did get a bit chilly at night), The staff is also very friendly. We had both their breakfast and dinner, both excellent. So basically, this place is amazing, no complaints at all!

Like in most Hostels in China, the service here is very good: we were served by a young, very smart girl who spoke excellent English. She was eager to answer all our questions and help us in every way she could. She explained us how to get to the Hongcun and Xidi villages and even wrote us in Chinese what we could show to the bus drivers.
