My 2 adult children and I spent 2 nights at Castelinho38 in the Cactus Room. The room was comfortable (a little noisy due to its location on the first floor at the front of the building). The breakfasts were delicious and generous including made to order eggs. The public space is very attractive and spacious. All the hosts were very...

This was a return visit to Castelinho38 and one of our favourite parts of Rio. We stayed for 3 nights in one of the garden suites, Jabuticaba, and were very comfortable. It was basic but very pleasant. We even saw monkeys from our bed during a siesta. The terrace has sweeping views over the city and has shade when needed...

Castelinho38 is located in the nice neighbourhood of Santa Teresa. It is located almost on top of the Santa Teresa hill, by the centre of Rio, and is famous for its winding, narrow streets. The hotel is located in a quiet and safe street. The view from the terrace where breakfast is served is terrific. The building itself is impressing...

After having stayed in the more touristy and luxury sections of Rio before, we decided to spend some time in the famous artist quarter, Santa Teresa. This small hotel is exactly what you would expect and wish for - quiet yet only a few doorsteps away from bars and restaurants, a stunning view on Rio and a lovely terrace and...

We (my husband, two daughters and myself) spent 3 nights at this lovely small Guesthouse. Staying at Castelinho38 is almost like being invited at your friends beautiful old townhouse. Breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking St Teresa and offered excellent fresh fruits, homemade cakes, espresso and any type of eggs freshly made - perfect way to start your day...

Room fine. Bathroom a bit small and shower not amazing. No air con. But.... good location (walking distance to Santa Teresa, relatively safe walk into Gloria if you fancy it and cheapish taxi to Christ the Redeemer), felt very safe, staff nice, honesty bar is great, interesting views over Rio, building is interesting. Good value which helps the rating.

We had a wonderful start to our holiday in Brazil by staying in this gem of a hotel. Its a lovely town house in the SantaTeresa district, made extremely welcoming by the friendly owner and staff. A relaxed atmosphere gave us the chance to recover from the flight. Highly recommended.

We visited recently as part of a 5 night stay in Rio. Castelinho had been recommended by friends particularly because of its location in Santa Teresa. It didn't disappoint on any front. The room was a double with mezzanine floor and was clean, well decorated and spacious. The views of the city from the lovely terrace and garden were great...

Great option in Santa Teresa, it's a fascinating town house full of charme, located in a quiet street a few steps from largo do guimaraes. Very nice and helpful staff, fast wi-fi and good breakfast! To recommend!

We stayed here for 3 nights on our first visit to Rio. As it was booked as part of a package we have no idea of the cost and hence value for money. We loved the location in the Santa Teresa district though it is a shame the tram is no longer running. Not all taxi drivers know the location....

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
