Stayed here during carnival during feb 2010, although the rooftop has appeal and draws a crowd, people from surrounding buildings threw boiling water in glass coffee jars at the rooftop over a number of nights. Secondly, we were indecently assaulted in the middle of the night by a male staff member this was in our dorm when my boyfriend was...

Stayed in this hostel for xmas in 2008 and had the best time. In fact I'd go as far to say that this is probably my joint favourite hostel (tied with spicylaos vang vieng) out of all of the ones I've stayed in across the world. Staff were all super friendly and helpful and they really worked hard to make...

I really enjoyed my stay at Stone of a Beach. The location is great. It is close to a metro station, and right by the major bus lines through Copacabana, and about a half mile from the beach. The breakfast is simple, but good, and served until noon, which woks out well if you go to club the night before....

What more could you want in the middle of Rio? The bar on the roof was fantastic. As a solo traveler I found it even easier than usual to meet others. As the bar closed at 12pm almost everyone then went on to a suggested location from the hostel to continue the night. There is a club next door which...

Have to disagree with the previous reviews. Stayed there in august and found that the room we reserved was quite clearly a converted cupboard. i know that hostels are budget accomodation but this really wasn't acceptable. Having since looked over the reviews on the hostelworld booking site seems like we weren't the only ones unhappy with this room. Also the...

Don't think twice before choosing Stone of a Beach as the best hostel to stay in Rio! I had a great time there and the opportunity to meet young people coming from all around the world! It's a very cozy place and they have a great barbecue party for their guest! It's worth it!

I visited Rio back in April 2007, it should not have taken me that long to write a review about this great hostel. I did a lot of research on the internet before my trip, this hostel was ranked among the best and I do not regret my choice to stay here. The hostel has an excellent staff of 20-somethings...

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
