Stayed for 4 nights in a garden room which was reasonably comfortable with air con and a fridge freezer outside, big king size bed and good size bathroom, if you have mobility problems this not the room for you as there are many steps. The atmosphere in the Casa Aurea is very laid back and informal with many age groups...

The smart thing in Rio is to avoid the beaches and establish you base in Santa Teresa, which is a sort of latin american combination of Kreutzberg (Berlin) and Montmartre (Paris ). The even smarter thing to do is to choose Casa Aurea to get a relaxed and homely feeling to which you can retire after doing the typical Rio...

This was our first stop in a seven week trip to South America. We were not disappointed. The property is more like a guest-house for welcome guests rather than an impersonal hotel. Very friendly and helpful - English spoken. Good for experienced travellers, young couples and families with older children. It's above the noise and traffic - easy to walk...

An ideal balance between functionality, comfort and good vibes makes this the perfect place to stay in Santa Teresa. The rooms are clean, simple and tasteful, and the common areas are both groovy and elegant. Their guest kitchen is clean and well-equipped, and there's always a hammock to read or rest in. The people who work there are warm treasures...

Excellent hospitalitythanks to friendly staff, always ready to help with good tips. Good location in Santa Teresa, close to bars and restaurants. Old charming villa with an exotic garden to relax in. Easy to walk to other attractive quarters in RIo.

You could come to Rio, never leave the pousada, and still have a great trip. It's the best place ever...super relaxed, breezy, interesting, bohemian, special, historic, beautiful, etc. The staff is the best part; they're so sweet and fun and make you feel really at home. Really really helpful and laid back. I felt like a queen. The room prices...

Excellent location: at the same time quiet and close to good restaurants and not far from Centro, metro..... Charming place with a relaxed atmosphere. The garden and the common room is joined together with nice places to relax and have a chat with other guests or the very helpful hosts. You may also enjoy the free coffee and access to...

The location of this hotel (it is a hotel not a pousada) is great. Just a block away from were you can take the bus to the city center, a few blocks from the "bobdy" (tram) and 3 blocks from lots of different bars and restaurants. Be aware that it is in a hill so to go around you will...

Beautiful historic house that reflects Santa Teresa: bohemian and full of art. Well located on a lit up street a short walk from everything, a large common space with hammocks to relax in, sculptures everywhere, a kitchen for common use. The staff was friendly and helpful, gave us some good tips to enjoy rio night life (basically avoid the tourist...

True story: We found and booked this Pousada at the last minute, after growing tired of the very upscale accommodations at the Rio Sheraton. We wanted to feel once again like we were in a more unique to Brazil type of place and were very happy to stay at Casa Aurea. The place is a former colonial home and you...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
