Absolutely beautiful, small hotel in a beautifully renovated villa, very stylish rooms, amazing view, perfect service. For us, it was not only the most beautiful place in Rio, but the most beautiful place we ever stayed at. I fully recommend Mama Ruisa, classy and cozy at the same time.

This small boutique hotel is so cool! The large rooms are such a relaxing treat with a artful decor and very comfortable beds. The location in the neighborhood of Santa Teresa is the by far the best place to stay in Rio. You can visit the beach easily, but you'll find that being at Mama Ruisa better. There you can...

Wonderfully tranquil home-away-from-home in Rio's most charming neighborhood. Beautifully large, sunlit rooms with unique, stylish decor from several decades of Brazilian design sprinkled with hand-picked artifacts of times past. Wake up to the stunning views of the city, the Sugarloaf and the Guanabara Bay. Lush, tropical garden, a swimming pool and cozy corners with pillows invite to relax and listen...

Our stay (4 nights) at Mama Ruisa was the amazing highlight of our 2 weeks trip through Brazil. Beautifully located in Santa Teresa this boutique hotel in an old colonial building comes with a stunning view (!!!) and very spacious, individually decorated rooms. The owner of the hotel - Jean Michel- has a fantastic and exquisite taste of interior style...

This boutique hotel is the essence of pleasure. The rooms are spacious and wonderfully furnished. The staff deliver high and personal service anytime. We had booked 2 nights from Friday to Sunday, but we were granted late check-out until 8.00 PM as our flight was at 11 PM. You will not regret staying at this hotel.

We had a terrace with views over Rio and glimpses of the the lovely gardens and pool through the windows. We quickly felt comfortable staying in what is a grand old house and we made the most...

We spent a truly lovely weekend in Rio at Mama Ruisa. The house is stunningly decorated and operated by friendly, welcoming and very professional staff who made us feel at home. We spent one night in the Lapa Room (small but well designed with a beautiful bathroom) and then we were upgraded for free to a larger room with a...

after 15 days travelling from Chile, through Argentina to Rio I booked myself a 'nice' hotel to relax and enjoy - I chose the Mama Ruisa and I was not disappointed. Discreetly positioned down a Santa Teresa side street, it was like walking into another world.' warm welcome from the dapper French owner, and told 'breakfast is served until 12...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
