Really enjoyed our stay at Mama Ruisa on a recent visit to Rio. The facilities were amazing including the beautiful hotel in general, the main areas, the swimming pool. Our room was massive with amazing. Imagine waking up to the sound of birds, opening your double doors to expansive views of the bay, eating a delicious continental breakfast on your private terrace. So incredible. Mainly worked with Thierry there, who spoke great English and was so warm, welcoming, and polite. The area is filled to the brim with local character with great food around. Different vibe compared to Ipanema and Copocabana but this was a positive for us as it gave us a different perspective on Rio. Much closer to centro as well.

Mama Ruisa is truly a gem in Rio. I was looking for a place to land in Rio with a group of friends where we could be together indoor and outdoor while having privacy and relaxation and we totally scored! Everything was perfect: great communication and proactivity from the owner Jean Michel, amazing service from his staff, absolutely comfortable and stunning decor ( a designer's dream to look at), enough space for everyone to either relax or work in your own room, enjoy the pool or share amazing meals in the common areas. And the location is just few minutes away from the heart of Santa Teresa with some great stores, restaurants etc. We had to get a Covid test to fly back to the US and the owner got us someone to come in and do it in the comfort of the hotel. Amazing! I am hoping to be back soon in the Mama Ruisa paradise!

My love of this place has inspired me to write my first ever review! This is one of the coolest, most beautiful and also hospitable place I have ever stayed. Every inch of the property is laid out and decorated gorgeously. Service is impeccable. Rooms are huge and comfortable. There is soul here! A trip to Rio would not be complete without a stay here.

Fabulous stay in a lovely villa high on the hillside in Santa Theresa. Spacious rooms with quirky fittings and traditional decor spiced up with modern art. Great pool and breakfast area plus huge living space packed with art and a perfect terrace for sundowners. Attentive staff who helped us with activities and assisted well when we had a medical crisis. Easy to get around to all the sights! Thoroughly recommend!

I stayed for one night in at Mama Ruisa. It was such a great stay. The staff was very accommodating and welcoming. The decoration is absolutely gorgeous. I keep dreaming about all the furnitures in the house. It also has a swimming pool that we could enjoy all day. Don't hesitate if you stay in Santa Teresa.

Hello, We came with my husband to this hotel because I saw a lot of good rewievs, and articles about this hotel. We thought that it will be very stylish and different expierance than in other usual hotel. I am sorry to say that, but we left the hotel without staying. Why? The room was very dirty, the shower cabin, sink, all the corners were with dusts. I understant that hotel is very “open” with open windows all the time end ect.. but it is not related with the dirty sheets and bathroom :) We told to the owner about this situacion and I was surprised how arrogant hi was. He offered us refund our money and said “You can go” . I always get to used that hotel service is trying to manage situacion, talk with clients and ect.. but not in this hotel. It looks like they are not care about clients, just about the money and good reviews. Oh, And I forgot to mentioned, that you need to pay for everything, example: if you order omlet they will charge you for bread. And for the end, I jus want to say, Thank you that you returned our money, but please, do not be so arrogant and pay more attention to cleanleness and customer service.

We loved the Hotel and the Santa Teresa area. The staff were so friendly and helpful in planning our excursions and local places to eat. Our room was very comfortable and a lovely small pool and garden to relax. Delicious breakfast. Lots of interesting books on Brazil to browse in a spacious lounge with a balcony to look at the views over Rio.
