If you want to live in a quite and safe part of Rio, Hotelinho is the place. Urca is also super central just a short uber ride away from Botafogo, Humita, Copacabana, Ipanema, Laranjeiras etc. I normally have a morning jog to Botafogo and back before a swim at Praia Vermelha, 10 min walk from the hotel. The hotel is run by Andreas from Germany who knows the city well. He speaks perfect English, português, and german. Breakfast is excellent with an amazing view to Corcovado.

I'm delinquent in writing this review since my boyfriend and I stayed at Hotelinho Urca back in January, but an excellent hotel deserves an excellent review. This was my first time staying anywhere in Rio that wasn't my grandma's house, but seeing as I was bringing my boyfriend this time, we wanted to have our own place. And what a place it was. From the excellent views from our room, which faced directly over Guanabara Bay and Corcovado (Big Jesus Mountain, for the uninitiated), to the delicious complimentary daily breakfast, from the relaxing pool on the roof of Hotelinho, to the incredible responsiveness of the hotel's owner, Andreas -- our stay was perfect. The neighborhood is safe, as well. There's a delicious cafe/boteco directly below selling fresh pastels (think Brazilian empanadas) and large format beers. At night, folks grab food and drink and sit along the mureta (little wall surrounding the bay) and watch the sun set over Corcovado. You can walk 15 minutes and get to two beaches (Praia Vermelha and Praia Urca), a bunch of delicious restaurants, multiple pharmacies, and a grocery store. You're a short walk from Rio Sul, a four-story mall, and a brief taxi ride from Copacabana. I almost DON'T want to share this review in the event you book the room I want to stay in next time! But seriously. Stay here. You will absolutely not regret it.

My brother and I stayed here for about five days and wish that we stayed longer. Andres was an amazing host, checking up on us daily, answering any questions that we had and giving us suggestions on where to visit in the city. The included breakfast was very good and filling. The best aspect of the guesthouse, for us, was the location. Urca was nice and quiet, but super beautiful. It is a few minutes walk away from Praia Vermelha and a coastal trail. Additionally the view from the terrace was unbeatable. We highly recommend staying at Hotelinho Urca and can't wait until we go back!

I really enjoyed my time at Hotelinho Urca. The communication was very effective through WhatsApp and email from the booking of the airport transfer from the airport to the hotel. I would say what really makes this place standout is the service and safety of the location. The staff really will be attentive to anything you need whether it’s a SIM card or something extra for the free breakfast. It’s basically a walking distance from the cable car of Sugarloaf mountain as well, while also having a pharmacy right next to it (a big plus) and a police station right in front of it. Very small, but wonderful hotel! And you get a great view of Christ the Redeemer.

Location: Urca is a safe neighborhood, and the hotel has a beautiful view of the Guanabara bay. Cleanliness: Both the bed and the bathroom are very clean. Amenities: It has free wifi. The breakfast is quite good, which is on the rooftop and has fresh air. Services: Both Desiree and Julio are very friendly and helpful. Downsides: It may have mosquitoes. Keeping the fan on would help keep mosquitoes in bay.

I honestly can’t say enough positive things about my experience. It was like a dream. After my wife left the city and I had a few days on my own, I discovered this little gem and I’ll be thankful I did for a long time. The neighborhood is magical - a beach, gorgeous hikes, and the wall along the water to eat, drink and reflect into the night. But meeting the owner of the hotel, Andreas, was the true highlight. He treated me like family from the moment I met him. The room was gorgeous. The breakfast on the terrace so memorable. If you’re traveling alone, looking for a romantic stay with a partner or bringing the family, don’t feel the pull to the city’s famous beaches. Stay HERE. Let Andreas and his team take care of you!

Surely one of the most scenic, welcoming and authentic places to stay in Rio. Located at the base of Sugar Loaf with stunning views of Christ the Redeemer day and night. Andreas and his staff provide nice rooms at a good price (several quite stunning), a fabulous roof top breakfast, and superb advice about Rio, both for fast paced tourists and for in-depth travelers. The neighborhood of Urca, besides being an ideal location for Sugar Loaf, is unique and wonderful in itself - quiet, safe, insular and loaded with atmospheric pubs and restaurants, including one just below the Guest House where we ate every-night. The one exception to Urca's quiet is the nightly gathering on the sea wall across from the Guest House where students, residents and tourists relax and watch beautiful sunsets. That gathering can be noisy on weekends but not a problem for sleeping. A Guest House not to be missed!

We chose this place as base to explore Urca and Pao do Acugar. Our expectations were more than met. Enjoying the fantastic breakfast buffet on the roof top and watching the sunset after a day out. The host Andreas is very helpful and responsive. There are plenty of restaurants near by and right in front you find the new hip-place where people hang out on the wall to the sea. If it get's too noisy just close the windows - we did not feel disturbed but amazed to observe the place. Urca is really different from the rest of Rio so we would recommend spending some nights here and Hotelinho is just perfect.

Located in the relative peace and quiet of Urca, this is my favourite place to stay in Rio. Great view across the water towards Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer). Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely homemade breakfast. Highly recommended.
