A superb place to stay in Rio. Unique location, Interesting decor, comfortable rooms with large beds, excellent healthy breakfast with fresh fruit and also fresh juices, and the best coffee in Rio, and brilliant service. Fantastic views of Corcovado and Sugarloaf. High up in the hills it has panoramic views over much of the city. A little way from the...

Paolo's breakfasts were fantastic - fresh fruit salad, fresh fruit juice, ham and cheese, fresh bread and coffee. Natalia looked after us very well and is a mine of information for the local area. The room and bathroom were very clean. You can see Christ the Redeemer from the balcony. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Rio Palazzo for only two nights, but it was a very enjoyable stay. The location is not central to Santa Teresa, but the bus stop right outside the house takes you into the heat of Santa Teresa in about five minutes. Do not be scared to use the public transportation system in Rio! It is very simple!...

We had 5 perfect days during the Carnical (I am a bit late with my review). Paulo and Natalia took really good care of our family. Starting with the Pick-up at the bus station (our bus was 1,5 h late), tips for going out, ordering lots of Taxis, chatting about art and antiques with Paulo during breakfast. After 5 days...

Stayed here for a few nights in one of the lower rooms. Staying in Santa Teresa is a great experience, very different from the beachfront. Our host Natalia was very kind, spoke excellent English, helped us with cabs and busses and dished out both great breakfast and advice. We had the opportunity to see the balcony room upstairs and will...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Rio Palazzo is located in an extravagant, uniquely adorned, colonial mansion sitting atop Rio's best neighborhood; Santa Teresa. Here you can experience the refreshing breeze coming off the Corcovado mountain meanwhile gazing out at views of Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf mountain, Cosme Velho, Tijuca forest and Guanabara Bay. What truly makes Santa Teresa unique is its Carioca character, views, and convenient location that allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of the over packed tourist hubs. The character of our nearly hundred year old "mansion" is guaranteed to grab your attention with large quantities of tasteful Brazilian art, Asian rugs and antiques from all over the world. In addition to being surrounded by rain forest and beautiful mountains, our B&B is conveniently located near all the major tourist hotspots of Rio and public transportation can be easily accessed just seconds from our doorstep nearly 24 hours a day. Ipanema and Copacabana beaches are only 15 minutes away by taxi and can be easily reached via public transportation as well. The nearest Metro stop is only 5 minuets away, the easiest way to navigate the city. Lapa, the best place to experience the bohemian spirit of Rio is only 10 minutes away. Santa Teresa offers you peace, tranquility, and a romantic atmosphere without sacrificing the accessibility you desire to get a true "Carioca" experience. Also nearby is a variety of unique museums as well as a plethora of both fine dining and budget friendly restaurants. We provide for our guests breakfast, wireless internet, and cleaning services all free of charge. Fully equipped kitchen is also at your disposal anytime outside of breakfast hours. ... more   less
