Really enjoyed my stay here at Oztel. It wasn't the easiest to find with no sign outside but was found eventually. We stayed 4 people in an 8 bed dorm. The dorm was clean, bright and at a nice temperature. The staff on reception when we were there (two women) were all lovely. They were very friendly and helpful. As...

It was almost completely empty, there was no atmosphere, the staff were unapologetically lazy and only 2 of them were even slightly friendly. It was very dirty, with pigeons all over, even around the breakfast. I didn't see anyone cleaning the week I stayed. In terms of sleeping, there was bugs all over the bed and much of the furniture...

Stayed in a private room which was quite cool and modern, but needs a little tlc. Bit dusty, some lights not working, sink leaked out of the base. Not major problems and could be easily fixed which would have a big impact. Some of the reception staff were lovely and very friendly, some were the complete opposite and disinterested. Location...

During my fortnight in Rio I stayed in four hostels in different parts of the city (5 nights in Oztel). I stayed in the same type of room in each - an ensuite double with AC. I have little experience of Hostels, but as this was a solo visit I liked the idea of meeting other travellers. Oztel was the...

We stayed here a few days before carnival got in full swing so it wasn't that busy. It was relatively clean but grimy around the edges. Most of the lockers were broken and the shower was tiny. And worst of all, each morning at about 9, they kept doing electrical works without warning, turning off lights in the showers, bathrooms,...

Sadly the only negative experience of travelling in Brazil. The hotel looks nicer in the pictures than in reality and it's shabby and poorly clean. Also, I was staying in one the private locked rooms (according to the hostel the best one) and my phone was stolen from it. For two days all I was told is I will speak...

We stayed at Oztel for the first week of a six month trip around South America and it was the best place to start our adventure. The staff were so friendly and helpful especially Lali, Alex and Markus who helped us find our feet in Rio and suggested some awesome things to do. The hostel itself was clean and had...

I stayed here for a week over carnival and really liked the vibe of the place. It's a nice, funky hostel in the heart of botafogo, a really arty, boho area of Rio. The included breakfast is good and the rooms are pretty clean and spacious. The staff are on the whole friendly and helpful. I would stay here again...

I spend 4 nights in middle of may and i loved it! The staff was really thoughtful. Barbara helped me a lot to get around and Maca was available and giving me tips of places to go out and show me parts of Rio that most of the tourists are missing... thanks a lot for that! The hostel it's always...

Staying in Botafogo

Neighbourhood Profile
In recent years, Botafogo has become one of the hottest neighbourhoods in Rio. It hosts many modern restaurants with contemporary food and many venues to listen to rock and electronic music. Its numerous bars and pubs make this area a great choice for anyone interested in a great nightlife experience - in fact, some bars in the area are open all night. Casa Daros, an art museum that showcases amazing artists from Latin America, is a must see located in a historical building in Botafogo.
