Our flights from the UK were to Rio, so we stayed here for a couple of nights at the start of our trip to Brazil, but were not able to stay again at the end because they were fully booked. This place is infinitely better than the place that we ended up having to use! Staff are efficient and polite,... More

I did not regret choosing this hotel. It has a great location in between Copacabana (2 blocks away to the beach & Avenida Atlantica, the major avenue that runs along the entire shoreline) and Ipanema (4 blocks away). In my entire stay in Rio, I just walked around the two famed beaches from the hotel. A supermarket is located nearby... More

This hotel is perfectly situated between Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. It is clean, neat, well run, and has every amenity you need. The breakfast buffet is very good. The only drawback is the pickpockets and thieves in this area of Rio. Watch your stuff!

We stayed here in March for the Carnival. The hotel staff were invariably friendly and helpful - starting with before our stay when I called up to ask for a higher floor room (thanks to advice on other TripAdvisor reports - thanks to everyone for comments!) and to check if they had hairdryers in the rooms. It took them a... More

We stayed at Hotel South American Copacabana for 3 nights and we liked it. The location is perfect, right between Copacaban and Ipanema, just 5 - 10 minutes walk to each beach. The area round the hotel feels very safe and it´s also close to restaurangs, shops and supermarkets. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The breakfastbuffé... More

Nicely placed hotel. In Europe this would be called a good midrange hotel. The ration of quality and price is not right but not any more wrong than elsewhere in Rio. It's clean, well located.... breakfast is good, it's safe. Internet is average... for business purposes probably not working well enough, privately ok. Rooms are a bit dark and not... More

The hotel has very small rooms with very noisy old air condition. They moved us 3 times from one room to another, but still very noisy. They stay over your back to watch what you eat on breakfast - a very embaracing feeling.

This hotel has not been renovated since the 80's and the rooms smell like hey haven't been cleaned since then either. Our first room smelled like smoke so we asked to see another and that one smelled like damp. The third one smelled like something we couldn't describe so we stuck to the smoke room. The staff was quite friendly... More

The main advantage about this hotel is its location so you can walk to either Ipanema or Copacabana beach. I am not sure why the hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel on their website but I would rather say it's a 2-3 star hotel with a 4 star location. The rooms: just ok to sleep in otherwise it's... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
