The Portinari is a good boutique hotel located in Copabana, one block from the beach, and really close to Ipanema (approximately 4 blocks). We had a room at the seventh floor. The room wasn’t really big, but was enough for what we were looking for. It has a really cozy and warm bed; I loved the sheets and the pillows....

Finding a good hotel in Rio can be challenging. We want a good location and modern amenities at a reasonable price. We have stayed at Hotel Debret in Copacabana, the Rio Flat Service in Leblon and Hotel Paysandu in Flamengo before. There are always of course, the Meridien, Sofitel, Marriott, Cesar Park and Copacabana Palace. Many high end hotels are...

I stayed three nights at the Portinari, two different times so two different rooms. The rooms are functional if a bit small, bathrooms are fine. Each floor has a different "design" (see the actual name of the hotel). The views are ok - if you bend your head you can see the ocean - but it is literally only a...

This was my first visit to Rio. Luckily, my finance speaks Portugeese and we were able to get around fairly well. The Hotel Portinari is a nice hotel with very friendly staff. There are a few things to be aware of. This hotel is located in Copacabana a block from the beach. However, Copacabana is not an area you want...

I spent one night at the Portinari in early September, 2005. I was pleased with my stay, but the hotel isn't perfect. Location: Not my personal favorite, but no complaints. I personally prefer Leblon / Ipanema, but I didn't have any security issues with Copacabana. The hotel isn't right on the beach... it's only a block away, but if you...

We really enjoyed our stay as the Portinari. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The rooms were very nice, but the walls were so thin you could hear the maid sweeping with a broom in the next room. This hotel is not on the beach, but so close it was no issue. Copacabana was one block away and Ipenema...

This really is a very nice hotel, but we realized later that the location wasn't really our cup of tea. A trendy, well designed hotel such as the Portinari would be much better off in the more stylish Ipanema area. Each floor of this hotel was done by a different designer/artist. Our room was supposedly a suite but the size...

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
