My friend and I started our South America trip in caipi during carnival and had a great time. The hostel itself was adequate and had everything I needed but it was the staff that really made caipi worth staying at!

I'll start by saying that the staff here were all very nice, engaging and helpful which gave us a good impression of the hostel when we arrived. However, there were quite a few cons: 1) The standard of cleanliness in the bathrooms and bedrooms was bordering on appalling. Hairs and toilet roll on the shower floors, dirty toilets 24/7, no...

For a few weeks i've been in Rio and have been to quite some hostels in Rio. The Caipi Hostal is definitely the best you can find. Super friendly staff, great services and an awesome location. Lapa is the best place to get a taste of nightlife in this wonderful city. During my stay the staff were like friends to...

Our stay at Caipi Hostel was perfect for this. very well located in Lapa, we enjoyed the very friendly, casual and simple life style at Caipi Hostel. We stayed at Caipi for Carnival and for a few days after and were really happy there. The staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were big enough (although very hot!) and the single sex bathrooms were clean (avoid the same sex ones if you are more picky). During carnival prices throughout rio skyrocket and Caipi was no exception. The price...

Dorm rooms are decent. 12 bed dorm was a comfortable size. Beds are comfortable. Each bed has 2 plug sockets. Storage is excellent - although the smaller storage space on my bunk was missing the metal piece enabling one to lock it. Curtains or blinds should be put on the window. Air con is decent and was on in the...

Hi there. Thanks for your review and all the good things you saw. Lets try to see also the problems. All of our showers have hot water. All the time. They are checked weekly. What happen is that you need to click a switch. Internet was really bad during carnival, but this is something we can´t do nothing about. The...

I spent 5 nights at Caipihostel and could confirm what I had heard before: it's a great value with an amazing staff. Friendly atmosphere with a common area where travellers can interact. FREE caipirinhas for happy hours. The breakfast is impressive with choice of fruits, juice, coffee, milk, bread, ham, cheese, cereal, cookies and dulce de leche. I liked it...

We stayed here one night before catching an early flight and had one of the worst hostel experiences so far in SA. Cons - BEDBUGS munching on you while you are trying to sleep. - The really loud Brazilian rock band playing until really late. I'm normally the last person to complain about music, but considering there were about 10...

Hello guys. Thanks for your comments. Most of them we already took care of. Cleaning and night shift training where improved. Bands stop playing at 1am as well. But I must say that we don't have bed bugs. Our metal beds, mattresses covers and constant cleaning where always enough to prevent us from them so far. And yes, I´ve been...

The rooms are very clean, excellent hot water, water filter, and free caipirinhas. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. They are accommodating and employ English, Portuguese, and Spanish speakers. If interested in a calmer hostel than what's in Copacabana.. ten times over I recommend this place.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Things you should know before coming here:• This is a backpacker hostel and we praise the backpacker lifestyle. So, we chose to offer awesome facilities for free and a cheap price for the stay. All rooms are the same: 6 bunk beds (12 people), with spring matress, big individual drawer and bed light, wi-fi and security cards for each room. • We have air conditioning everywhere (in the rooms from 10pm to 10am) and a great common area with a happy hour bar, tv and a lounge area for smokers. We are really serious about having fun and sleeping. This means that after 11pm, the party must go on in the streets! Guests who do not respect this, will be invited to leave.• We don't have private rooms because we want you to meet new people and make friends. We also don’t have breakfast neither kitchen facilities because of some building issues. But food around here is really cheap.• We are in Lapa: a insane place with street parties, historical buildings, loads of bars and restaurants and amazing people from around the world; but it’s not a wealthy neighbourhood and you well see the real side of Rio, not just the postcard picture!• We’re not beside the beach, which means you’ll see more locals walking in the streets during the day, not only tourists. You can get there easily by bus (25min) or subway (20min); and what you spend to go there, you’ll save when you walk to the bars at night. • Remember: we only accept CASH! And the payment must be at the check-in. There are several ATMs on our street and the Police Central is in front of us. Read our terms and conditions too.• ... more   less
