Cannot say enough about TuAKaza: about the space; the host Matteo who is one of a kind; the privileged location with unique/thoughtful architecture and design that feels surreal - to name but a few. Magical and whimsical retreat in the city of Rio. Come here if you want peace, beauty and an opportunity to absorb the energy from the magnificent landscape that is so unique to Rio. Moments from amazing hiking up to Pedra Bonita, the entrance to Tujica National Park, as well as a short easy drive to fabulous beaches and restaurants. In sum, TuAKaza is an oasis powered by incredible human kindness and generosity.

We highly recommend Tuakaza - the breathtaking views, the caring staff, the relaxing ambiance - all set in the green hillside above Sao Conrado beach. With Matteo’s attentive hospitality (including all inclusive delicious snacks, drinks, and breakfast), this is the place to stay to recharge in the shadow of pedra de gavea. Very much a hidden gem in Rio!

If you are looking for a comfortable and tranquil location with breathtaking views in Rio, this is a place to visit. The hospitality is excellent and Matteo is attentive, flexible and a genuinely lovely guy. If you are looking for a commercial five star hotel with such amenities, this is not for you. Instead, Tuakaza offers a unique experience which is authentic and "local" with exquisite touches of class such as the pools and bedrooms. Matteo provided excellent recommendations and was a message away if we had any questions. The beach is close by, there are the treks into the Tijuca Park and I'd recommend Uber as a means of getting around which is cheap and easy.

The TuAkAzA resort is incredible, not only for the views and the beautiful bedrooms but for the comfortable beds, the welcoming common areas but mostly for the host, Matteo. Matteo was extremely kind, helpful and knowledgeable. My boyfriend and I were appreciative to have Matteo to ask for local recommendations and advice. The showers had excellent water pressure and got nice and warm. The breakfast was good. Everything in the house is included in the price, including beers, sodas and water. There is a really nice hike close by and easy/safe to walk to beaches. Matteo is bilingual which made it easy to communicate. Both Matteo and his wife were very nice and approachable, and would only recommend this place to anyone staying in the Rio area.

After reading the previous fantastic reviews the Lodge had received we were so excited about our visit... it did not disappoint! We were greeted with open arms by the lovely owner Matteo. At check in we were upgraded to a larger room which was a huge spacious suite. This comprised of a large bath tub/jacuzzi, rainfall shower, balcony with a hammock, bottle of champagne and many other wonderful features. We were told to make ourselves at home and help ourselves to drinks/snacks. Being British, we found this difficult at first but by the second day we felt so comfortable. We really liked the stocked fridge full of drinks (including beers) and table full of a large variety of different foods. It was perfect for the first day when we didn’t manage to get out to lunch! Breakfast was lovely- a starter of fruits then onto hams, cheeses, warm bread and scrambled egg. All served with a stunning view. Apart from the amazing location our favourite thing about the place was the families genuine generosity and kindness towards us. It was not an experience we will easily forget and we hope to come back with friends in the near future. Thanks again!…
