This one is hard to rate - the staff were very nice and helpful and when the shower didnt have any hot water i was offered another room to shower in while they fixed it. Great location with nice cafes nearby. The breakfast was nice and even big cooked breakfast lovers would be happy. The common areas were lovely and... More

This Rio b&b gives you a real touch of Rio life. In the hills with quite easy access to the metro (Gloria) which sits at the bottom of the hill ( but please note you will generally need to get a taxi back as it's a very steep walk or use the walk as a work out !) . The... More

Ideally situated for exploring Santa Theresa and for droppong down into the centre. The hotel is well-sited on a steep, hill (which means steep steps in the hotel). The word 'boutique' has become devalued and somewhat meaningless but this hotel is stylish and personal. Staff are helpful though our welcome was very poor (soemtimes just a smile can make the difference).... More

We had a marvellous time in this small hotel in the Santa Teresa area. First impressions weren't ideal as we arrived in the dark but after that everything was perfect. Michelle, Michelle and Jeff were always helpful and had good recommendations. Breakfast was excellent. The breakfast staff and room staff were excellent. And we got more of an experience of... More

Stayed for a week during the Olympics & so glad we found this place in Santa Teresa. It's a hidden oasis & we loved being able to spend a few hours relaxing on the terrace after a busy morning. And monkeys were included when we visited! Obviously peak prices applied but we expected that given its great location. We stayed... More

First time in Rio to see the Olympics. On arrival at night we were aprehensive, as we had paid more than hansomly for our accommodation with high expectations, the very steep cobbled roads and graffitied buildings and walls were a real culture shock compaired to south west London. When the street level security gate was opened we were immediately surprised... More

Very near the Santos du Mont domestic airport, this centrally located boutique hotel is a peaceful alternative centrally located alternative to the frenetic downtown beach area. We booked a room with balcony and spa bath and it was great value for money. Excellent breakfast, spotless rooms and English speaking staff who went out of their way to be helpful.

My memories of staying in this hotel are my fondest of my two weeks in Rio, when my partner and I stayed in 3 different hotels and hostels in different areas. Having gained some perspective in this way, Quinta Azul and the Santa Teresa area offer hands down the best experience and value for money. Where to start...beautiful comfortable bed,... More

A perfect option for travellers who like an authentic experience. Right in the heart of characterful Santa Teresa, with its great neighbourhood restaurants and bars, this is somewhere where you will experience the true soul of Rio. The rooms are simple and comfortable, with free Wifi, Air Conditioning etc... Bathroom amenities could do with improving though. There is a lovely... More

Unfortunately, we only had the pleasure of staying at Quinta Azul for one night. I wish we could have stayed many room. We are traditionally budget travelers, so even the room without a window was a slight splurge. However, it was well worth it. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was very nice. I could see an issue... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
