Rio de Janeiro is called the Marvelous City for a reason! Brazilians are a fun-loving people, and there’s plenty to do, see, taste, and try for the first time. Hike along golden beaches and up mountains overlooking the ocean. Step out to samba (and every other kind of music you can think of), party in the streets, and fall in love with soccer in this vibrant, energetic city. Located in the historic neighborhood of town, Selina Lapa is in walking distance of theaters, concert halls, museums, shows and the best of Rio’s nightlife! With an urban vibe that will keep you busy and entertained, and a rooftop that overlooks some of Rio’s most impressive buildings and sights, Selina should be on your list.

Comfortable rooms, friendly staff, beautiful decoration, lovely rooftop bar. The only "problem" I could mention is that the hotel is located in front of a very busy street and it can be quite noisy from early morning till very late at night - I'd recommend talking to staff prior booking if you need silence. The hotel also owns a SPA, small cinema, library and many other intersting common areas, and offered yoga classes twice a day during my stay. Really, really nice! Lapa does seem dodgy and it can be dangerous. Usually there are cops around as the neighbourhood is quite famous for Selarón Staircase, bars and music venues. As a local, I'd say: mind your surroundings, avoid showing off cellphones and jewls, and pick up a Uber if you feel insecure! In general, Selina is located in a very central area with buses and subway (~10min walk).

Room Tip: The suite+ was really good but quite noisy because of the street. Awesome view but bad for those...

What I loved about Selina Lapa was its location, perfect for young and/or solo travellers. I booked a suite and the room was spacious with a great view. The atmosphere is very lively and it combines work/leisure quite well. However, I think the service needs to be improved: my room was never cleaned if I didn't personally ask for it at the reception (the "please clean my room" sign over the door handle is apparently ignored every single day). I stayed for 6 nights in a private suite and I had to ask for it to be cleaned everyday, one day I had to ask twice and some days it wasn't cleaned at all. Breakfast options are very limited (you get 2 choices) and the staff seems constantly confused and unaware of what to serve to whom. They don't seem to be trained or organized (one waitress looked at me extremelly confused when I made my order, only to return a few moments later to say she couldn't help me). They either need to hire more people or just train their staff to better serve customers. Other than that it was a pleasant experience.

This place is special! Great people staying, great staff, facilities couldn’t be better, awesome food. The staff are friendly and have helped me whenever I’ve needed it. The rooftop bar is a perfect space to enjoy some food and drinks with a great view of the arches and the surrounding city. Love the whole place! Just wish Francisco the DJ could host an event, the only thing missing right now!

I would highly recommend Selina Lapa. The hotel is well designed, with lots of communal spaces, offers good food and has a great vibe about it. The rooms themselves are modern, clean and nicely decorated, but what really sets Selina apart from other hotels is the staff. The staff here were the most friendly, welcoming and helpful hotel staff I've ever come across. I would definitely recommend Selina hotels and will certainly book with Selina again in the future.
