The rooms are very plain and basic with no hair dryer or kettle but they do have an effective aircon, fridge and modern safe that can take a small laptop. The shower-room must be the smallest I have seen with a tiny basin. Large people will not be able to turn around in the shower. Staff at the front desk...

The location was great but - the room was tiny, we had paid for a twin room and got one tiny single and a set of bunks. The bathroom is one of the smallest (and we have seen small before) we have had. The room was dark and gloomy. The staff were fine and breakfast on a par with others...

This is a hotel located less than 300 meters from the Gloria Subway Station. Old building, no lifts. Don't expect too much and you'll be happy. AC, TV, WiFi, excellent breakfast. No parking available at the site. Front desk staff very nice. Not beachfront at all.

We stayed at Hotel Monte Castelo for a few days while exploring Rio. The hotel is in a quiet, safe area and about 5 min walk to the next metro station. The room was clean, a bit small but still okay. The windows went from the bedroom and from the bathroom out into a shaft but it wasn't too bad...

I wanted to stay in the heart of a residential area to live and learn another culture. I was unsure of my choice here at first, windows wide open, no screens, a bit plain, dark hallways. Coming from the US we are spoiled and picky. As the day and week went on I fell in love with this hotel, the...

Stayed here for two nights. The rooms are very small, the door hits the bed as you walk in. Ditto the bathroom, the basin almost hangs over the w.c. and you need to negotiate around the w.c. to reach the shower. The bathroom door is a sliding affair as there is no room for a proper door. There was a...

This is a plain hotel suited for those who are not interested in Rio's beach-life culture but, most of all, want to pay less for accommodations in one of Brazil's most expensive cities. The hotel is within walking distance from Gloria subway station making it easy to go to major attractions in town. It's also safe to walk around and...

Our whole family stayed in Rio for 7 nights and Hotel Monte Castelo was a really good value for a good area in Rio. The staff was very nice and tried to speak english (or even showed us a bit around, which was really nice!) The rooms were quite good, even if it wasnt the cleanest. For the money you...

The room is really tiny with an even smaller shower room. Ground floor room was a little noisy but still ok. Breakfast was okish, nothing special. Diner is also very small. Access to main road and public transport was good but street was a little dodgy, didn't really feel safe walking home at night.
