Likes (in no particular order): - location, central Copacabana and near the beach - atmosphere - interior - very friendly and helpful staff (special thanks to Alec who helped us to get money back from a restaurant) - rooftop pool and lounge area - (included) breakfast(-area) Less likes: - squeaking bed - few hanging options (in bathroom) beside closet - no complementary (first) coffee/tea in room

Room Tip: Take an Uber to the hotel, regular taxis are about twice the price and equal service.

The hotel is pretty good, overall. The room is relatively big, however, the bathroom smells like an open sewage. The service was good, until we checked out. They didn't get a credit card on file or a security deposit, but hit us with a water bill at the end. There were no prices or any information that the water is for an additional charge, however, there was a note regarding the coffee charges. So, we didn't drink any coffee as the prices were way too high, but we did drink water. The bill was almost 50 USD, for 21 bottles of water and 2 beers that we had during our stay. We started complaining that we were never informed about additional charges and why there was a price list for coffee but not for anything else as well. Their answer was: well, nobody complained until now, so why are you complaining? Please pay. We went back and forth with the manager for about an hour so they took down the bill cost by 50%, and we paid the rest. It was very unprofessional they way the manager handled the situation, so I will never stay with that hotel. We also talked with other hotel guests, and they were never informed either and they were very shocked about this fraudulent business behavior. Do not recommend.

It's hard to know where to start complaining about this stay. First, for a hotel of this value, not having a parking lot is deplorable. Having to leave the car on the street subject to Rio's scammers was one of the things that made the rio/ritz experience even worse. Second, when you get the best room available in the hotel and pay an extra fee for a balcony and the balcony chair is full of pigeon droppings and everything is dirty and wet, it's disappointing. Really disappointing. Third, the safe just didn’t work, as does the shower fan, and don't expect anyone to want to fix it, because they don't give a damn! I called several times and they never fixed anything and did not follow up or communicate about it. Fourth, THE BATHROOM! What kind of bathroom door doesn't close properly, causing you to feel like you don't even have privacy to do your own personal needs? Apart from the fact that the toilet is separate from the shower. For this price, the least you can hope for is some privacy in the bathroom. After traveling all over Brazil and paying different prices for hotels, this was my worst experience, and unfortunately the most expensive. This hotel should be rated at least $10 a night or less, and I would still think twice about staying. The pool is nice, but that's it. There are cheaper hotels for you to enjoy a pool. In short, I would never go back to Rio, and even if I did, I would definitely not stay at the Ritz. Disappointing!!!

The Ritz was just the best find ever. From the very moment we arrived to the taxi picking us up for our return every day was bliss. Never ever thought we’d end up having a rooftop pool and much of the time have it exclusively. Spent many hours sunning ourselves whilst drinking champagne with the odd dip in the pool to cool off. Superb views of Sugar Loaf mountain and the golden Copacabana beach. Everything was perfect, the staff, the room and the breakfast was mind blowing. Can’t wait go back again!!

This hotel is only one street away from the middle of the beach. There is a really nice swimming pool and bar on the top floor of the hotel, where we went to drink and play cards before going out for dinner each evening. Breakfast was also really nice, really good selection of food available and in a lovely setting. Room was very clean and really nice, plenty of cupboard space, a fridge for keeping our own drinks cold. Loads of nearby restaurants and shops. Supermarket only in next street, about two minutes walk away that sells everything you need.
