I've been working in the city for almost a month. I stayed in several hotels, including in Cabo Branco and Tambaú and this was one of the ones I liked the most!
If you are coming for a walk, I recommend staying close to the beaches. But if you are coming on business this hotel is excellent value for money!
I'm just not going to give it a 5 because on my last day at 7 am construction work started INSIDE THE HOTEL. I arrived early in the morning and was not notified. Terrible for those who want to rest for another day of work. Other guests were also complaining. There is no such thing as a hotel doing work before 10am. Rethink!!!!!!
Other important factors:
Great value for money. Fair price.
Location close to the city center. Far from the beaches.
Large, organized room. Spacious.
Bathroom with hairdryer, hot shower. The shower or hygienic shower was not very good. Almost no power.
Simple but satisfying breakfast. There is always couscous, sausage, coffee, baked bread, eggs, bananas, watermelon and some other fruits. In addition to other options that I don't usually include so I didn't pay attention.
All the staff are great! Quite cordial.
There is parking and practically a valet helping when the parking lot is full.

The building is a concrete throwback to the 1960s, not unpleasant in a nostalgic sort of way. One drawback is the echoing corridor which may be annoying when late-comers return from their night out. However the service is good and after a day the staff knew me by name. If you want a bit of space, there is a large foyer where you can watch the TV soaps. Also one of the best breakfasts in Brazil.
I ran into a difficulty when reserving a room on booking.com, because the hotel claimed that there wasn't enough credit on my account. Hence I had to make an expensive call to my bank, to find there was plenty of credit. It's possible therefore that the hotel staff were not reading my credit card balance correctly.
The city of Joao Pessoa has molre character than some other north-eastern cities (Brazilian art nouveau, anyone?) and most of the attractions are accessible on foot.
