This was the second hotel that my husband and I stayed at in Salvador - just for one night between our return from Boipeba and our departure to Rio. Originally, we stayed in the Vitoria neighbourhood, and much preferred the Rio Vermelho neighbourhood around Catharaina Paraguacu because it was quite lively with restaurants and bars. I really don't understand why... More

Nice hotel in good position to visit the city and the beaches of Salvador. The building is beautiful. The room we had small but comfortable. Staff very nice, as usual in Brazil. Breakfast ok. A good hotel to stay a couple of days in Salvador avoiding the risks of Pelourinho at nighttime.

It's a charming home-like converted colonial hotel. Rooms are air-conditioned but otherwise it's warm. Lovely breakfast and great service, very polite and pleasant staff. Close to Fogo do Chao - Brazilian steakhouse!

I have been for five days in thes small hotel-pousada. Inside, it's ok. But, outside, it'n't. It's not a safe place. There is a guard with keys on the extern door. If you need to go in with emergency, you need to be very patient. The next beach, not far, there is'nt with clean water, clean people, dangerous place, etc.... More

We stay in Salvador for the last 4 days in January (including 31 Jan the first night of Carnival). It was a excelent experience: Salvador is great, people are friendly (don't trust people afraid of their own shadows) and most of all hotel Catharina is wonderfull. Staff is friendly and very eficient, rooms are clean and nice, breakfast is very... More

The hotel is nice from the interior. The location is good, nice neighbourhood, good restaurants. Beware of a room next to the street. It can get very noisy of the traffic outside. Also: in the weekend you may hear loud music from the pub on the opposite of the hotel.

We were there in December of 2003. The hotel is small and personal, with artisitic touches throughout. The desk man, Marcos, speaks very good English. He was our own personal concierge--giving us perfect recommendations (where to see the sunset, what local concert to check out). The breakfast is also very good (included in the rate). We also enjoyed the fact... More
