I recommend this place - a friend recommended it to us and we went there not knowing a lot.
For the per person price, I thought the accommodations were a little on the bare bones side (especially coming from El Pueblito in Samaipata). But that...More
A remarkable place in a marvellous situation. Neat and friendly. Somewhat difficult for non-spanish speakers as the staff does not know English. Fantastic walks in a magical jungle. Good and not so good local guides. Although the sporty traveller is OK with no room service,...More
This is a place to unwind and recharge the batteries which after 7 months traveling around South America we needed. The accommodation is simple and understated, which we liked. The bathroom perfectly functional with plentiful hot water. There are deckchairs, sofas and hammocks to relax following a...More

We enjoyed our two nights here and the meals and accommodations were good. It is overwhelmingly beautiful here and don't miss it. Our days were very windy so birdwatching poor except for ever present jays. Hiking is strenuous and satisfying.

You will hardly see any wildlife due to the thick vegetation. It’s also very difficult to approach by stealth so as not to disturb any potential wildlife. The guides there are not wildlife guides just escort you along the pathways. Some holiday makers had brought their own wildlife / birding guides with them. We saw many birds around the dining area. The walks, which you can easily do unaccompanied, are rewarding as it is a beautiful place. I don’t know anything about a biodome. For wildlife go to the Pantanal in south eastern Bolivia or Brazil it is abundant & diverse.

The entrance to Refugio Los Volcanes is 5km along an offroad track. The turnoff is very near to Bermejo. I would recommend using a 4x4 to get up the track as it is bumpy. You will then park your car at the top at a small farm (it is very safe up there). Staff from the hotel will collect you and drive you another 5km into the valley (it is not permitted to drive your own vehicle into the Refuge). If you do not have a 4x4 then contact the hotel who will help you make arrangements to get there using a suitable taxi.
