The best budget option in town (short of sleeping outside), the Capsule Inn Hirosaki is conveniently located in the bar/club area and a short walk from Hirosaki Castle Park (it is a somewhat longer walk from the station, would probably recommend a taxi if it is very hot, raining, snowing, or you are arriving late at night). Clean, modern and not as seedy as the pachinko and bowling downstairs had me worried. 3000 yen-ish includes free onsen (with sauna, hot bath, cold bath and Jacuzzi bath), basic toiletries, and a reaonable-size capsule. PRO: - Cheap lodging 5 minute-walk from Hirosaki Castle. Price for a capsule in 2012 is 3200 yen ($40). - I believe the ONLY capsule hotel in Hirosaki, so there is always vacancy.
