I am a paraplegic and use a wheelchair. I am reviewing the roll in show wheelchair accessible room. I would totally recommend this hotel. It is 1 subway stop away from the DCA airport and 2 or 3 stops to the national mall and museums. The room itself looked recently renovated. It had a large bathroom with room in shower and a pull down bench on the wall with hand held shower head. The thermostat was easy to reach and the room had plenty of space to move around. I would recommend this hotel to other wheelchair users.
It boggles my mind how this hotel managed to get as many good stars as it has. Although a Marriott, and a $300 a night hotel, there were no redeeming quality features to deserve the price or the name. For starters upon getting into our room and checking it out, we found a used soap bar in the bathroom and trash in the trash bin, which let us know the bathroom was not cleaned. We’re low maintenance and non confrontational so we just cleaned the bathroom ourselves and continued with our stay. Nighttime arrives and we notice the room isn’t cold, it felt at best 78 degrees. The fan blew air but it wasn’t cold. Setting the fan to the max level and settings the temperature at 50 degrees and the room never got cold, none of us were able to sleep properly. At 3:53 am after attempting to sleep and waking up multiple times, we went downstairs to ask for a room change and were told that was not possible as they sold out. At a $300 a night hotel we were told the best they could do was offer us a fan. They sent security to check and security gaslight us into thinking the ac worked just because the fan was working and refused to send the fan. They treated me poorly as if I was attempting to get a comped room, when I was not, I only wanted to have comfortable sleeping temperature for my kids and I. Besides the lack of cleanliness and AC issue I would also like to point out that the hotel advertises that they have a pool, they do not have a working pool. They also very vaguely offer you breakfast and wifi, making it seem like it’s accessible and free, but they do not mention that breakfast is not complimentary and they wifi is only free in the lobby. Ultimately, I do not recommend this hotel for families. Perhaps for a quick passing business trip or for one night, but nothing more…
Haven’t stayed at this location in a while but working nearby so I thought I would give it a try. Weird thing about water. No complimentary in the room or for sale. Bigger issue no cups. So, if you get thirsty you are limited to drinking from the sink faucet. I have lifetime status so generally look forward to the concierge lounge at Marriott properties. I was especially happy to see this one had a M Club which is usually the top tier. Well, let’s just say it was major disappointment. Pictures on the website showed a decent spread, with additional descriptions like honor bar etc. Well the evening hors d’oeuvres consisted of celery with ranch dressing or small cups of shepherds pie. Drinks were limited to the attendant running out to the hotel bar. Don’t waste your money upgrading to M club access, you are better off at the hotel bar. Overall the hotel is pretty dated and not a whole lot of restaurants nearby. The area seems to be somewhat run down with lots of vacant buildings, restaurants, etc. Convenient to DCA but that is about all this has going for it.…
Very nice room, except for view which was unfortunately a huge pitted construction site out the window. Clean, spacious, comfortable bed. Breakfast had nice staff, enjoyed the broken yolk breakfast sandwich.
For those wondering whether residing here would be too much of a stretch for visiting Washington DC in terms of distance, I can tell you that it is not. The hotel is situated across the Potomac but includes direct hotel access to a tunnel/underground walkway system that connects the hotel to restaurants, malls, and a metro station which conveniently has two lines leading to the national mall. There is a wide variety of restaurants near the hotel too, making it extremely convenient for all travelers, not just tourists. The hotel offers shuttle service to Ronald Reagan International Airport which is extremely helpful for business travelers and those looking for car rentals. Paid Parking is also available outside the hotel, as well as a bike rental service. It also has pleasant customer service and an immense number of ballrooms for event hosting. Furthermore, the rooms are quaint and quite clean. The bathroom space is quite generous and well lit, whilst the bedroom (no ceiling lights) was also spacious and for our room, which was a double, it came with a sofa and a desk, as well as a TV and refrigerator and closet. The hotel also offers suites for families…
I needed to book a hotel that was conveniently located near Reagan National Airport as I would be traveling the following day. I always have high expectations when visiting a Marriott and this time was no exception. When I first arrived I was impressed with the lobby. It was clean and high class. The lady at the counter promptly checked me in with no issues, and I was on my way in under ten minutes. My room was on the 4th floor. I paid for a king size bed, however the room I was assigned featured two queen’s. They stated it was because the property was completely booked. Not happy about that. That should have been communicated to me upon check in. Other than that, the room was acceptably comfortable and well maintained. The bed was quite firm. I prefer a softer mattress, but that’s just my personal preference. The location of the hotel was great. With uber eats, there were a lot of great food options close by. It’s a busy part of town, and if you prefer to walk, you won’t have problems finding great food spots. All in all I’d stay there again. It was a little pricey but the property did include a free shuttle to the airport. It came in handy. You won’t go wrong booking here if you need a place to stay for a night or two. We stayed here for a volleyball tournament a few weeks before Covid hit back in 2020. At the time I had been super impressed with the hotel service, cleanliness and food, so I was looking forward to our return visit. The visit coincided with DC lifting their mask mandate, so I felt like we were really coming full circle. Check in was lackluster and no mention of our Bonvoy status. The room was not the cleanest. First thing I saw in the bathroom was a hair and I can assure you, it was not mine. They tell you to request housekeeping and they only way to do so is to call the front desk. We did this each day but the results varied. Requests for extra towels also took a very long time. Food options are limited. There is a buffet but it was nowhere near as nice as I recalled. Several times I went to request water at the front desk and was left waiting for a fair amount of time. I hope as life returns to normal, this hotel will return to the place it was 2 years ago.…
Lovely hotel. I spent a week here in February 2020, and another week here in February 2022 (last month). First room was great but the during my second stay, I ended up in a much larger room and really enjoyed the extra space. The lobby is inviting and the hotel is connected to the Crystal City metro, which is perfect. The food at the restaurant in the lobby was also excellent, seemed to be locally inspired. LOVED the M Club Lounge, ideal getaway spot to get some work done and unwind! Housekeeping was by request, and making a request was an easy phone call to the front desk. What stood out the most was how spotless and clean this hotel was. The staff really takes care of public areas and I would see staff cleaning often. I was here for a conference, and the conference spaces were wonderful. No issues at all during either visit. Excellent and a model Marriott.…
I completed a two night stay at the Crystal Gateway Marriott and had an excellent experience. From check-in to check-out, the staff were courteous and helpful. My Titanium Elite status was recognized at check-in, leading to an upgrade to a 1- bedroom suite and access to the M Lounge. The M Lounge offers an excellent breakfast buffet daily from 630-1030 and evening apps daily from 530-730. The hotel is connected to the Crystal City Metro station via enclosed walkway which is very convenient for easy access to/from DC, Arlington, and National Airport. Highly recommended!
I stayed at the Crystal Gateway in mid-January 2022 at the height of Omicron. I have stayed at this hotel for leisure and for a conference previously and enjoyed it because of its location to restaurants, a mall and the metro (underground at the hotel). I returned because my stay had always been pleasant. I did make several phone calls before arriving to confirm the airport shuttle and the way to gain access, and the protocols that were being observed for COVID. I arrived at the airport and called for the shuttle and was told that it only operated on the 1/2 hour. Me and my companion were the first at the station and by 20 minutes in a multitude of people arrived all waiting for the Marriott shuttle, Hilton, and Hyatt came several times while we waited. By the time the small shuttle arrived there was literally a pushing rush to get to the door first. A flight crew member (who had arrived some time after us) walked to the driver side and got the driver to agree to take all six of them first. At this point I was irritated and did not feel like arguing to get on with on so I caught an Uber. When we arrived at the hotel the line to check in was to the hotel doors, there was one person checking everyone in and it took some time to get the desk. I quickly learned that the hotel was completely understaffed, at the desk, at the restaurant and at the little hotel market (they had the front desk staff running that in between trying to check in guest). There was also a conference happening and it felt like the hotel was overrun. The only concession to COVID was mask wearing (many people heartedly engaged) there was no social distancing in elevators so they were packed full, there were not many with actual masks I saw a lot of bandanas and gators. Housekeeping was only available if you requested it. The rooms have been updated to a more modern look and the bathrooms have only showers with dual shower heads. The toilet is tucked behind a wall for sem-privacy. The room was nice and the beds were ok for comfort. There was also an armless chaise by the window that was equipped with blackout curtains. I was there for four nights and during two of them I was awakened by guests partying in the hallways and slamming doors that I attribute to the conference. I had never previously had any noise issues at this hotel. The hotel has a fitness room but no pool or jacuzzi. The biggest benefit to me this trip was the location. There was no outstanding service, no ease of check in or check out. There was only one person there at check out and she was extremely grumpy, she was busy working at the market, then her computer didn't work, we really felt like we were inconveniencing her, and she abruptly demanded our keys and I think realized how brusque she was being because she then launched into how bad of a morning she was happening. I was happy leave and did not leave this trip with good memories of this Marriott.…
