Watch out for the add on fees! Historic district tax, resort fee, and $75 pet fee. The pet fee was for one night, Room was ok a bit dated ....but $300 for one night for a room advertised as $175.00...again pet fee ramps it..which we knew would be added. However, with other fees seems pet fee is excessive.
Love, love, love The Martha!!! Stayed in a suite for our 10 year anniversary. From the front porch with old windows and rocking chairs to the huge antique Grandfather clock in front parlor welcome you. The halls are filled with history. Every Single Staff Member super nice and helpful: From front desk to spa to housekeeping! Our suite had a nice relaxing “living room” with TV and separate bedroom with another TV. The shower was also amazing! We did the Couples Retreat @ The Spa with massage and another hour in jacuzzi soaking tubs. So relaxing and worth it for a special occasion. They offered eye masks during massage to darken the room. Both Holly & Angel did amazing massages! Not the case everywhere you go. Usually 1 of the 2 have a therapist who isn’t so great. NOT the case here. Both ladies know what they’re doing and do it well!…
A birthday trip to Abingdon included a night at the Martha Washington Inn. We arrived in town a little early, so I called the Inn and asked if we could check in early. The person who answered the phone didn't identify themself, but did say she would call us when our room was ready. At 2:45, we had exhausted everything that was open in town, so we went to the Inn. We were "greeted" by a very unfriendly young woman who said our room wasn't ready - no explanation, no apology, no suggestion to walk through the Inn and grounds, no offer of a drink...nothing!. If this introduction to this historic old hotel is indicative of the rest of our stay, I am planning on being disappointed. However, we did on our own find the library and enjoyed sitting by the fire in this beautiful room.
The Inn was a historic girls school and provides a comfortable spot .The hotel is worth exploring giving a glimpse in of different era. . It is well-maintained and updated. The bar is local gathering spot. We were treated with a morning snow.
My husband and I have stayed here many times and loved it but hadn’t visited since 2014. We returned with our 8-yr-old twins Dec 20-24 and had a fabulous time! Karen, at reception, took such good care of us and kindly upgraded us to a lovely room, number 400, which was on the top floor overlooking the front lawn and back to the hot tub. Lovely to have a little extra room to spread out as a family. We booked the beautiful parlor room for a private American Girl tea party for our girls and their dolls. The room was gorgeous with Christmas decorations and the little cakes were fun. They were repainting the pool and quickly finished the job ahead of time so that we would be able to enjoy swimming that evening. The water is a lovely temperature. Unfortunately, the hot tubs were closed due to recent Covid rules. If you go, we highly recommend White Birch restaurant for a delicious breakfast and Bella‘s for takeout pizza. We had a fabulous bike ride down the Virginia Creeper Trail, opting to ride from Abingdon to Damascus and we used a bike company named Sundog. We also drove up to the Grayson Highlands and loved seeing the wild ponies. All in all, the hotel bent over backwards to compensate for the services they couldn’t offer due to Covid, and made us feel so welcome that we extended our trip an extra day.…
