I was stay with Westin Miyako on April 2012 with a group of people from my company. The rooms is small but they have very nice bathroom. When I was trying to find a remote, accidentally a drawer broke and felt over, but it was Ok for me since it did not felt into my leg. What amaze me was...

Westin Miyako is in the north eastern corner of Kyoto. On the map it looks a little away from the centre of the city but you may be glad! There is a quiet back trail (hotel staff will direct you) to the stunning Nanzenji Temple, the Path of Philosophy (with many smaller temples running off either side) and it even...

It's a grand building and relatively large for a Kyoto hotel. Big lobby and big rooms, the place feels a bit conference-y but I did stay because of office meeting. Efficient service, food a bit blah.

This is a nice property to stay in if you relax and take your time about enjoying Kyoto and soak in the more traditional slower pace of older Asian culture. It is not located smack in the centre of action in terms of shopping in Kyoto but a short walk will take you to most places.

Wasn't blown away by the hotel, but greatful for the smoking rooms. Lovely lobby - and free wifi in there only. Business centre 300 yen per 15 mins. The room isn't anything special, beds are very comfy though. Lovely slippers and robe provided :) Lovely views from terrace , just not from some rooms. Worth an upgrade to room with...

For comparable hotels in Kyoto, the Westin Miyako has a pretty good rate. The room is nothing spectacular, but the surrounding garden adds character to the rather historic hotel. I think many of the comments about the location is somewhat irrelevant, as most places you'd want to visit are spread all over Kyoto anyway. The front desk clerk was curt,...

I was half-expecting the Westin to be a soulless concrete structure, and half-expecting it to be really tiny. Instead, it was the best of both worlds -- Western and Japanese. The hotel itself is perched at the base of a hill, and has a pretty courtyard and elegant architecture. The rooms are big and modern. I didn't give much thought...

I found the room to be very outdated, and more representative of a 3-star hotel. To be fair, the room rates were on the low side as well. On the plus side, the concierge staff were very knowledgeable. Location wise, it is a bit out of the way, but they do run a shuttle bus between the hotel and Kyoto...

We stayed here for four nights in Kyoto as part of a longer trip around Japan, and it was ideal for what we wanted. The staff spoke great English and were able to help us all of our queries and travel plans. The hotel is clean, modern, lovely rooms with a fresh coffee machine, and some great views. As for...

This is a huge hotel, feels like they can host multiple weddings at once. The location is not very convenient for tourists, you'll need to walk 15-20 minutes to the main sights or take a cab (very expensive in Japan). The rooms are somewhat dated, the furniture has scratches on it, but it's okay. The view from the bird trail...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
