After asking numerous times to speak to the manager I was told I could leave my luggage till 6pm but no later then this. .very basic accomadation for the price, tiny shower which one cannot...

Opted for a traditional Japanese style room for 3 nights. Ryokan is well maintained and in a good location. The staff go out of their way to accommodate guests and made your stay very enjoyable. There are daily activities (free) such as tea ceremonies and sake tastings in the lobby. The onsen is a bonus, especially after a long day...

This is a nice little ryokan in good location, only a walk away from the subway and a couple popular sights. They have Japanese style rooms and western style rooms. We opted for the Japanese room for two. It was rather small (not necessarily a problem) and could have used a bit of updating. The futon beds were really comfortable...

This is a typical Japanese Guest house, so, if you are in Kyoto and want to experience living like a true Japanese this is a right place! You will sleep on tatami and wear traditional clothes provided in the Guest house. Every morning there is a tea ceremony and you can participate! I think this is a place not to...

This is a wonderful ryokan, the service is just amazing and above (wonderful) Japan service culture. All staff goes to great lengths to be sure I was happy, comfortable, helped and super relaxed. The onsen is amazing and having at least a night in the traditional futon bed is a must :-)

We wanted an authentic Japanese accommodation experience while still having a little western comfort and this guest house exceeded our expectations. The wonderful couple who own the Ryokan invite guests to a tea ceremony which is very pleasant. There is a small onsen downstairs that is the perfect way to end a busy day of sightseeing. The rooms are spacious,...

Loved everything about this Ryokan except they have a policy that you are locked in the Ryokan at midnight. For me I didn't like it since back home it's 11am in the morning and I need to walk around. Would recommend if you don't mind being locked in or locked out if you are not back by midnight.

We wanted to stay at a traditional Japanese guest house, but wanted the ease of an easy check in, english speaking hosts and a comfortable room. These had all of the above plus more! Do opt to include the breakfast, that alone is an experience. You pick a time 7:30 - 8:30 and it will take 30-60 mins to eat....

My husband and I came here with friends and had a wonderful stay. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto. The Nishiyama's are so welcoming and their staff is very helpful and accommodating. The meals were traditional, beautiful and delicious. We were very pleased with our stay here and would come again on another trip to...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
