I have to say that Rich Hotel was one of the worst experience on our trip to Japan. We were not expecting a luxury for this price but hoping to get clean room with comfortable beds. None of them we get. Hotel was smelling of cigarettes and air refreshments that are used to mask the odor. You could smell cigarettes...

This place has crazy prices! My friend and I stayed there for four nights, paying so little money that i was expecting the worst.... The hotel instead is clean, well positioned within walking distance from the downtown area and close to bus stops to go anywhere you like. The room was tidy, clean and had everything you need: tea set,...

Located just a couple hundred feat from the nearest bus stop, this hotel was very easy to reach. I was a little daunted by the negative reviews but my experience was wonderful. This was the cheapest room I stayed in during my entire trip to Japan.

I booked this hotel on agoda.com, I've been using them for every time I come to Japan. Its my first time actually staying in Kyoto. I'm currently writing this review as I'm in the hotel, about to leave for Tokyo. I booked a twin room for my boyfriend and I because of the price. As we entered the hotel, people...

In Dec, I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights, on the 4th night, I felt itchy, i didn't think much of it. By the 5th night, I woke in the middle of the night from intense itching, that's when i found bedbugs creeping on/ in my sheets and bed (see photos & video). It was everywhere - sheets, bed...

20 mins from Kiyomizu/Gion area by walk. Hotel facilities are little bit old, but the cost performance is good.

I will say, I was happy with this hotel for the price I paid. It's not a luxury hotel by any means, but it's neat and practical and served my purpose. Location is ok, everything is well connected by public transport. Free wifi and can be accessed in each room, not just the lobby which I've found elsewhere. Rooms and...

Stayed here due to its proximity to office I was working from. The property seems to be popular with Asian group travellers. Single room was clean and typical small size and layout for a business hotel but room was a bit dark and dated in decor. Unit bathroom. There are convenience stores nearby as well as a small supermarket. OK...

I stayed here for three nights and it was ok. The price was good, the room ok and the location was ok. A 20 min walk to tge train station, or a 5 minute taxi ride. The staff were ok although spoke very little english. Breakfast could be purchased although I didn't check it out. It was quiet and clean....

I have been in this hotel for 6 nights. Hotel room was quite small but this seems to be same for every hotel around this price in japan so I will not complain about it since room was really clean and in good condition. Hotel staff is always smiling and trying to help you. Breakfast was also good ( 980...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
