Pros: Cheap for the location – though we did visit in low season. The lobby has a vending machine with alcohol and a washing machine. Cons: We booked a non-smoking room but it stunk of smoke – especially the bathroom. Everything was very run down and dated. Our wall had black mould all over it – we didn't complain though...

The hotel room was quite dated and in need of refurbishment. The bathroom shower curtain was so mouldy. The bed was so ridiculously hard, felt like sleeping on concrete. The location was ok, a 20 ish minute walk to the station.

We stayed here for 3 nights, and found the stay at this premises average. It is located a good 10 min walk to the nearest main subway line, and about 5 mins to a small subway that is less well connected to other parts of the city. The staff were excellent throughout the three days, and all the staff that...

We stayed here for just one night. Everything is simply average and dated. Location: 10 min walk from the closest subway Room: simply average and a little dated It is a little overpriced but we stayed on a Saturday night and expected this. Will forget once we leave. Done the job.

The hotel is a little old nothing fancy, not very rich in terms of architecture or amendities.room is basic and small ( you really need to squeeze your luggage if big) equipped with a TV essentially with Japanese programs and a capsule bathroom. Bed mattress is too soft and no safe box.internet is free and work fine. Ask for a...

This hotel on my trip thus far has unfortunately been the most unmemorable. Booking for my trip began months ago and with 7 hotels, initially this one already seemed an issue. With no credit card payment allowed on booking and only payment on arrival meant more planning for expenditures etc. Months later, arriving in Kyoto and ready to book in...

This is an old school hotel from the entrance to the rooms – not in a good way though. All the equipment is old and should have been replaced 15 years ago. The best days of thist hotel are certanly over. Our triple room was very very small. We did not even have a place for our lugages. The only...

When we first entered the room, the scent/freshener was just too sweet for my liking. But I was able to just tolerate and get used to it afterwards. The comforters were too used for ages that's why there are sewn pieces and holes that are evident. But I am glad that they changed the comforters too every time they makeup...

This place is a find. Nothing exceptional but we weren't after that sort of place. We needed somewhere in a good location to stay the night in Kyoto, with good transport links and with a few eateries and bars nearby. Thats exactly what we got! Plus it was nice and clean, with helpful friendly staff and in the foyer theres...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
