Well we are from China and stayed foe 3 nights. To start with I really think this hotel is far away from the city. But after living there for 3 days, it become my its not that bad, there's bus going directly to JR KYOTO. Among all Japanese hotel I stayed with it became my faborite. The staffs are so...

When I read some of the previous reviews I thought twice about giving this ryokan a chance. I'm sure glad I did! Mia and Du Fujishiro have found their calling in the hospitality business. Our room was large and accommodating with an ensuite bathroom and in room WiFi. Just outside our door was a desktop computer, printer, and a wide...

we stay one night at this ryokan and l would have liked to stay more. All the staff were very nice and helpful and the room was nice and spacious. They got a nice restaurant with a nice view on the garden and the food is tasty and well priced. l will recommend this ryokan to anyone visiting Kyoto.

At the Kyoto station - go to the JR bus terminal and get on the bus that leaves from bus stop JR3. The bus departs every 30 minutes. The last one at 21.00. To be able to check in, however, you shouldn't take a bus later than 19.30 - or go to the Tourist office just above the stairs of...

This is a good base to visit Ryoanji and Kinkakuji. Although it looks quite far away from the center of Kyoto, it is not really the case. And, if you have the JR Pass, you can use the JR bus for free and the bus stops you about 150m from the ryokan. We had a traditional room (without attached bathroom)...

I wanted a Ryokan experience in a city like Kyoto, hence decided on Ryokan Yamazaki. All the other ryokans in the city area were way off the charts for my budget, so the reasonable cost per night at Yamazaki added boost to my decision! We booked the room through email, and the communication was all in English. It took two...

Although we had looked at the pictures we were a little disappointed with this ryokan. The rooms were traditional Japanese style with tatami mats and the beds on the floor. There was a decent size bathroom and a fridge. For the price we just expected something more. Also it wasn't easy to get to. It involved train for central Tokyo,...

This family run Japanese Inn is very authentic and has some really beautiful Japanese gardens that can be viewed from most of the rooms. It is a little ways outside of the main city area, however it is well worth the trip. Some traditional Japanese Inns are not keen on accepting foreign tourists due to language barriers and apprehension at...

Outside of the city, away from the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. Very charming, authentic and incredibly accommodating. Definitely recommend this place for anyone who visits Japan and needs a relaxing getaway after the visiting the holiday hotspots of this wonderful country.

It's very pretty & has an authentic japanese feel to it. I believe it might be family run. Easy to get to by bus, but there is NOTHING around the ryokan. We walked around the area looking for food but there weren't any. There were only 2 convenience stores (family mart & something else). Ended up eating at the ryokan...

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
