Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Let me start with saying that there’s nothing Royal about Rihga. We were welcomed by the uncourteous staff at the hotel reception who asked us to carry our bags ourselves to the room. Rooms are very cramped. House keeping is only done till 12 PM after which you will have to make a special request which is also entertained till 2 PM. Post 2 PM room will not be cleaned. Duvet slides inside the cover and you keep fixing that all night. Breakfast timing is 10 AM but they put a close sign after 9.30 AM and nothing is refreshed after that. They shut the counters and pick up the food at exact 10 AM including the coffee machines. All in all it feels like an army base where you are always on your toes. It felt like the hotel did a favour by letting us stay in their property. This hotel is the only bad experience in my entire 10 day japan tour. The only good thing is the proximity to kyoto station however there are other hotel options nearby.

Travelling with Wendy Wu Tours this hotel was chosen for us but did not disappoint. The room was spacious, immaculately clean and very comfortable. Location is good and close to the train station for onward travel using the bullet train. Breakfast is very chaotic with long queues and a bit of a scrum for food. That said, what I had was delicious. Food in the Chinese Restaurant was good but the bar prices were very high. There is a 7 Eleven across the road which was handy and cheap.

A very modern and well appointed hotel in a handy position for shops, hotels, coin laundry and Irish pub. Rooms were nice and big and the quality of the fittings were very good. The beds were comfortable and it came with a coffee and tea making facilities. Breakfast was extremely crowded no matter what time you went, but the food was varied and fresh. Like most Japanese hotels, the room was very hot with no independent controls. Would recommend it.

The property is really clean and beautiful. Very close to Kyoto Station and we loved the shuttle bus provided. We also loved the buffet breakfast included. Such a great variety of foods and we were able to try the traditional Japanese breakfast as well. Thank you for making our stay so amazing!

We stayed at this hotel before. It is just a short walk to Kyoto Station. And a hotel shuttle is available to and from Kyoto Station if you need it. The room size is good. And we were very impressed by its buffet breakfast and the size of its breakfast area. So this time we stayed here again and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the Executive floor Standard Twin Room this time. On another note, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants had to stop doing buffets. We are very glad that buffets are now back. We were particularly looking forward to having a nice buffet after four years! The buffet breakfast items have changed here but the food is still of the same high standards. There were lots of items to choose from.

I used here for an overnight stay after work. I was satisfied with the large bath, and spacious and comfortable temperature controlled room. It took about 5 minutes to walk from Kyoto Station, but I was soothed by the beauty of the entrance, so I was able to enjoy the walking there.

On our long trek through Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto to relax, enjoy the ryokans, the onsens, and the local cuisines, we found ourselves in Kyoto staying at the Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto for 3 nights, getting away from the "ryokans" after 2 full weeks in many of these accommodations with onsens spas and dinner included. Yesterday, at the hotel, we visited AOI for the teppan-yaki dinner with the very delicious "Omi" wagyu beef, and lobster, which were very good; one of the best teppan-yaki dinner service, in terms of quality of the Omi beef, the Atlantic lobster, and the execution. However, it was dinner tonight, Dec 6, 2023, at the Gourmand Tachibana in the hotel which gave my wife and I, the BEST DINNER SERVICE in our long Japanese trip so far. We had no idea what type of food or service Gourmand Tachibana served, so we had zero expectations. Gourmand Tachibana serves western cuisine, similar to a degustation menu with many courses, using the finest local meats, seafood and produce. Chef Shibata designed a very creative and well-balanced menu, with interesting dishes, using best in-season local ingredients. Chef Shibata executed with precision skills and as such, we were able to taste the freshest and sweetest of Japan produce from white radish, daikon, taro root, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, and many others. The seafood elements were the freshest and created with attention to detail and taste. The meat course, while not Kobe, Omi or Matsusaka beef, was still so perfected cooked and balanced with the right sauce and course-grain mustard, the taste in the mouth was of full balance. Absolute compliments, and hats off, to Chef Shibata. Meanwhile restaurant manager Matsuda, took great care, not only to explain each dish to us, but he printed out for us, a full version of the menu all in English. Both manager Matsuda and Chef Shibata went even further and brought out some of the main ingredients used to show us. THANK YOU for delivering beyond our expectations and we hope Righa Royal Hotel Kyoto management team will take notice and can work out how to further promote this type of food, attention to detail service and this type of cuisine to tourist like us looking for new ways to taste the great foods and ingredients of Kyoto and Japan. Well done, and please keep it up, as we will definitely return, and will HIGHLY RECOMMEND to all family and friends. ; )
