We stayed here for 3 nights and had a very enjoyable stay. Our room was large and the bathroom was lovely with a large wet room and very well stocked consumables, including face masks and men's after shave balms etc. The staff were very attentive and the room was spotless. The hotel is well placed with everything in walking distance. There's a 7/11, lovely temple and subway station all within a 5 minute walk maximum, and Nishiki Market is only 10-15 minutes walk. We would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at this property for two nights in November, and for the most part, had an enjoyable stay. I had booked a "premium double" room and was definitely not disappointed. The lobby of the hotel is small but very nicely decorated, and the central staircase is the centerpiece of the lobby. The location of the hotel was in a very quiet (but accessible) area, which I really appreciated (combination of quiet + convenience). Check-in staff were polite and friendly, and they offered to bring my bags up to my room and also to get me acquainted to the hotel (and the room itself). My room was very nicely sized with a slightly larger-than-usual bathroom which I appreciated. The bathroom was laid out in what I can only explain as a "Japanese Style" in which there is the main bathroom itself, and then a shower stall which encompasses both the shower and bathtub in one (huge) enclosure. The room itself felt both dated but very clean at the same time. I don't think the room was actually dated/old, but that this was actually a design decision of the hotel. There was ample space for luggage, a decent size desk to work at, and then a small separate table with two chairs. There was also a nicely sized window which actually allows you to open it (tilt only) to get fresh air, should you choose to do so. The view from my room was adequate and what I would call a "city view". The second night of my stay I noticed my room started to reek of smoke, I ended up going down to the lobby to ask/inform them and they said they would look into it. Apparently a guest in an adjacent room on my floor had been smoking, despite the whole floor being non-smoking. I definitely don't fault the hotel for this. My stay at the hotel was enjoyable, but my checkout process was not. I booked the hotel indirectly, through a respected OTA/Hotel booking engine, and the booking site did not properly describe taxes that were owed. Hotel staff were both confused and rather uninterested in dealing with this. I asked to speak to a manager, which was essentially declined, but the assistant(?) manager on duty ran by and and rudely handed the staff member I was speaking to a document with some highlighting of the items regarding the taxes (which didn't actually resolve my issue). I ended up extremely frustrated from this experience, and the hotel does not seem interested in correcting the issue of their taxes not showing properly on third party booking agents. All said and done, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, but did not enjoy the conduct of the "manager" during my checkout.

We usually stay on the Eastern side of Kyoto, so this was our first stay in Central Kyoto. As others have mentioned, the Hotel Nikko Princess is very convenient. Although at first you are shocked that the hotel is on a side-street, it provides a bit of a buffer from car and foot traffic and is nestled next to a temple. It is around the corner from a subway station and also bus stops heading uptown and downtown. (You can buy a one-day or three-day pass for bus use which is highly recommended if you are going to be doing more than two bus rides a day.) For those who need to purchase snacks, drinks or basic supplies, there is both a Lawson's and a 7Eleven around the corner. It is about 5 minutes walk to the very busy street, Shijo-dori, where all the department stores and Nishiki Markets are located (take the back streets to get there, they are far more interesting). The rooms are of a good size and the windows open, so you can get fresh air. Fabulous! Breakfast buffet is good, especially as you have access to an espresso coffee machine, meaning you can make your coffee just the way you like it and as strong as you wish. But you also have an espresso machine in your room, so you can skip the buffet, have a coffee in your room and head out. Staff are excellent and very helpful.

Kyoto is one of my favourite cities in Japan. The choice of Hotel Nikko Princess was an excellent one for it's location. A few streets away from the main street of Kyoto. It has a quiet location. Hotel is very clean and room size was decent. Staff very helpful. The city of Kyoto is a city that is walkable, although taxis are conveniently available. I found the rooms comfortable with a few mod cons. This hotel was fairly priced and will not hesitate to return. If you prefer quiet surroundings at your hotel, this is one. We did not book our room to include breakfast, but found a delightful restaurant near the hotel.

Never having stayed at his chain before, admittedly I was a little apprehensive. It was a fabulous sized room with a great view of the distant hills. Well located ( Gion is a brisk 10 minute walk). What made our stay outstanding is the service. In Every interaction staff provided exceptional experience. Highly recommended.

During the recent rugby world cup, my wife and I spent 2 days in beautiful Kyoto, and stayed in the Nikko Princess. The room was large and well furnished, very clean as per everything in Japan. The decor was a little dated more 1990's than 2000's. But that did not distract from a great night sleep. Large walk in shower was appreciated after a day walking the sights. Easy walking distance to several sights and just 200 yards from the bus stop. A great place to base your trip to Kyoto

Yes the rooms are a little out dated but still quite nice and plenty of room. The service and staff was great, the breakfast was absolutely amazing with plenty of options. It's close to most things and in a nice area.

Upon first impression it felt like the hotel was in the middle of nowhere, but we soon realised that it’s in walking distance of so many of Kyoto’s sights & restaurants. It’s actually a superb location. Free parking was great too. Really big room.
