OK it's not the most modern hotel and you could argue it is on the wrong side of Kyoto station but let me tell you these folk know what they are doing, they do it as second nature and get it right most of the time. The only negative might be the 2.00 pm check in that appeared to be...

Conveniently located Just 5 minutes walk from the Kyoto station and bus terminal. The rooms are of average size and were exceptionally clean. Free wifi throughout. The buffet breakfast is very nice and includes European as well as Japanese. Reception staff speak excellent English. Check in is 2pm or later although you can leave bags in the locker room before...

We stayed here as home base while visiting Kyoto. Lovely. Safe. Helpful English speaking front desk with concierge. Don't miss the shops on the lower level. If you have to pick up a few things it is a very nice collection. We ate at the hotel restaurant several times - very nice. You can find almost any kind of food...

we stayed here in June and we are a family of 2 adults and 2 girls aged 10 and 8. We had 2 single rooms with king single beds in each room next to each other. The room were a garden view of the courtyard and this was excellent as it was not on the station side of the street....

Ok, we did just come from Tokyo where we stayed at The Strings Intercontinental, so I admit my review may be a bit biased...but the New Miyako is really just an aging tourist hotel. We had premium connecting twin rooms (a must because they don't have rooms large enough to sleep four in Japan) and while they were quite adequate...

We were advised that the hotel was near the station but not far from the CBD. In fact it is about across the road from the station. Rooms are a good size which is surprising for a Japanese hotel. Plenty of choices for restaurants within the hotel including Western food , but not cheap. In the shopping mall opposite plenty...

We were in town for a wedding and this was the spot our local bride picked for the home base - and she couldn't have picked better. Reasonable prices, really super staff, comfortable rooms. The property is right across the street from the train station, as convenient as it gets. Two malls bracket it, the Station Mall and the Aeon...

This hotel is at the heart of kyoto city, from where you can just visit about every place in Kyoto having the Kyoto station at just the opposite of the same. The rooms are excellent. There is a nearby mall where you can visit and get just about everything, I also bought a football from there :). Infact the Kyoto...

Arrived at ten to 1:00 pm three days ago, their check in is at 2:00 pm. We are two elderly seniors, my wife was not feeling well, and I asked the reception clerk at the left corner if we could check as we arrived. She said no, check in is at 2:00 pm, but then I asked her to consult...

This hotel is across the road from Kyoto station. The staff are all very friendly, from the doorman who greeted us with “You’re in the right place,” as we arrived from the station, to the enthusiastic staff member who took our bags up and showed us to our room – a rarity these days. Our fourth floor room was a...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
