Stayed here as part of an organised tour. Its a great family run Ryokan, just a few blocks from Kyoto station. Rooms were very clean, most with en-suite. If you are expecting a 5 star hotel, you will be disappointed. However if you want affordable traditional accommodation is a convenient location, then this is your place!

I stayed in a ryokan on the top floor which although was very spacious, was so dusty and there was a strange clicking sound that was quite distracting. WiFi only worked at reception and my kettle didn't work. Absolutely perfect location though, and the cats that wander around were sweet.

Short to the Kyoto station, small ryokan run by a very friendly family. They put on the heat Every day So your room is nice and warm when you come back from a long day of sightseeing. I also highly recommend the Japanese breakfast for 1000 yen per person. So good and tasty and keeps you going till lunchtime!

Normally I would say near the station is not a good idea but it works in Kyoto because you are near every train and bus line possible. There are lots of restaurants nearby too. The ryokan lobby is small and cramped but the rooms are quite spacious and well appointed in the traditional style. The bathrooms are quite small and...

We were very lucky that there was a vacancy, as we had not booked anything and just were going door to door. Such lovely people and so very helpful. We had a large room, no ensuite but being upstairs we were close to the communal bathroom. It was very comfortable and I loved the tiny self serve Japanase tea service....

Super friendly staff. Super clean. Great to have private bathroom in the room. Furnishing is sparse but that is typical of ryokans. Disappointed that the room had no wifi access. Location is excellent, within a few minutes walk from the main Kyoto station. Was going to the station each night just to see the light show on the steps! Placid...

Stayed at the Ryoken Heianbo in Kyoto. I wanted to stay at a Ryokan and I'm so pleased I chose this Royakan. We were greeted with such a friendly, genuine welcome from the family who run the guesthouse. The room was delightful, and the futon was very comfortable. We had a room without private bathroom, which I was initially concerned...

Me and my wife chose Heianbo for trying the traditional ryokan on our Japan trip. We only spent one night at Heianbo, but it was enough to see that it's a great place to stay. The location is ideal just beside the main station, yet it's hidden just enough, so you don't need to worry about excessive noise. Our room...

Our final ryokan was the best of three fabulous Japanese traditional accommodations we stayed in during our trip. The rooms were beautifully laid out and it was en-suite! We had a separate shower room and bathroom. There is a spacious communal area where WiFi is free, a great place to congregate to chat with fellow travelers about their adventures that...
