Nice hotel with a wonderful location next to Nijo Castle. The concierge, Mariko Yamamoto, was immensely helpful setting up three dinner reservations for us during the Golden Week holidays. Very knowledgeable and eager to help! Will look forward to coming back again.

So I had a week stay here earlier this year before the great virus pandemic. When I first checked in, they asked me whether I wanted a western style or Japanese style room. I said western style and they told me that they could only honor that request for the first 3 days. I reluctantly agreed. The western style room wasn't too shabby, but it wasn't a super model knockout either. Three days later, I make my move to the Japanese style room. Man on man are these rooms much more kawaii. If my artistic vocabulary was better, I'd write beautiful things about this room here in this review. But just to put it bluntly, these are very well crafted rooms. They make the western rooms look like cargo holds and they're also bigger. So if you're a foreigner, and you find yourself at this hotel in the future after this killer virus goes away, remember to ask for the Japanese style room.

This was a very comfortable hotel and located near public transportation and in walking distance of many of the sites. The hotel concierge was very helpful in getting us started on our site seeing and helping us get transportation to Osaka for our flight when we left. The hotel has a van that you can use to get to the train station and other stops in town so if you come in and or leave from the train station it is easy to get to the hotel.

This hotel experience was very pleasant. The room itself wasn't very big, but it was packed with amenities and was very comfortable with a pretty good view. One nice feature was the bus to the main train station, which was useful. Quaint hotel and staff was nice, but there wasn't enough unique features that would give it the excellent rating.

The best thing about this hotel is that it is a short walk from Nijo castle. We stayed here during COVID19 so we weren't expecting too much but the staff were very friendly and the lobby is beautiful, especially sitting at the bar opposite the lobby watching the waterfall. The room itself was spacious enough for two days and the bed and pillows were comfy. They have a salon on the 8th floor which has food and drink for that particular floors guests which is great. Would recommend if you want to be in arms reach of some of the castles and in central Kyoto.

We booked 4 night stay in March, 2020. Due to CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) travel warning forced us to cancel the trip to South Korea and Japan. All hotels we booked in Japan and Korea had offered Goodwill and refunded money except ANA Crown Plaza in Kyoto. They penalized us for full payment, not even willing to give any future travel credit. Very disappointed with it.

Hello V6293CBchrisw, Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience at the Crowne Plaza and share it with us. With the goals to achieve high-quality standards, deliver guest satisfaction and serve traveler's needs, Crowne Plaza was born. We are proud to be a hotel that is easy to do business with, unfortunately, your experience, regarding the request to cancel the reservation and refund the cost, as a result of the current global situation does not reflect this. I would like to apologize that you were not given the standards of hospitality that we expect from our staff and management. We have taken the liberty of providing them your feedback and coaching to ensure that these issues are not repeated. Furthermore, I have sent you a Private Message to gather more details of your reservation. I hope you find time to respond, as I look forward to hearing from you As we strive to continuously achieve high-quality standards, deliver guest satisfaction and serve traveler's needs, your comments are instrumental and valued. We hope to host your party in the future should you give us another chance to be your hotel of choice. Have a blessed day. Hector P Case Manager IHGService

What a great location, directly opposite Nijo Castle, subway station 100m away & walking distance to many eating places. The service from staff is excellent & the free shuttle to Kyoto station is great, the waterfall backdrop is impressive. The rooms are quite large, comfy bed, good shower, tea & coffee, fridge etc. Definitely recommend if in Kyoto.

Had to stay in Kyoto for one night and this was perfect, not that you can’t stay longer. Nice ambience as you enter, a spa in the basement and 3 restaurants. I got to enjoy the club level Salon as well. Very friendly staff and 250 meters to a subway station. Hotel is right across from Nijo Castle!

+1
Hotel is a 10-15 minutes taxi ride from Kyoto station which costs around 1500 yen. It’s a bit of a strange location but one side of hotel does overlook the castle (I was on 5th floor with good view of castle and surrounding hills). The reception area, entrance and common areas do look very dated but they were all spotlessly clean and well maintained. I personally found the service good throughout the hotel. The 5th floor rooms look fairly recently refurbished compared to rest of hotel but was nice enough (see pictures) but the wardrobes are very small/shallow if you were here for a long stay. Very small Club lounge on 5th floor with limited range of free drinks 5-8.00pm for club rooms. The breakfast buffet was very good with wide selection of local and international dishes. There was a coffee shop and convenience store within 2-3 minutes walk from hotel. Overall I had a good stay to use as a base for a very busy visit schedule to see the many sights in Kyoto. If you are travelling in and out of Kyoto a lot on a trip I would stay at one of the hotels right next to/in the Kyoto station area rather than here.

Thank you very much for your recent stay with us at ANA CROWNE PLAZA KYOTO. We are so glad to read your comments that you are satisfied with your room and breakfast. We would like to add some information about the access to our hotel. A free shuttle bus service from and to Kyoto station runs every 15 minutes, and each way takes around 20 minutes. The operating hour from hotel to Kyoto station is 7:40AM and from 8:05AM until 7:50PM, and from Kyoto station to hotel is 8:00AM until 7:45PM. Since October, we have increased, on Saturday night only, three extra roundtrips to our shuttle service. The last departure from Kyoto Station is at 20:50PM. A subway station and bus stops close by also allow you to enjoy the city. Salon on 6th and 8th floors opens from 3pm to 8pm. All your comments are taken seriously and it will be referenced for room renovation in the future. We will look forward to welcoming you again on your next trip to Kyoto. Stayed with my family for 2 days. Here is my quick review of overall stay here. - Location: Decent - Staff: Polite but Needs training - Price: overpriced (so are most of the hotels around Kyoto) - Treatment of members: Pathetic (I have been a Spire ambassador for last 4 years) - Upgrade: None - Complementary offers: 20% vouchers + Free drink (Opted for fresh juice and I was given a Canned juice during check out) Being an avid traveler and a spire elite ambassador it’s amusing to see how IHG brand takes valued members for a ride. No greetings, no complimentary breakfast, No early check-ins (12:30 PM) and were quite rude and we were made to wait for an hour with a 3 year old child. Advice to the hotel and IHG brand: seriously rethink the way you treat members who have been loyal to your brand. To be fair Marriott Bonvoy treats their Gold members far better than how you treat your spire elites. Already moved most of my stays to Marriott and Hyatt.

Hello, Elantra123, It's a pleasure hosting one of our IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite Ambassadors at the Crowne Plaza Ana Kyoto. I read about your dismay on the staff service and about the unavailability of your member benefits. As the largest full-service upscale hotel brand in the world, we aim to deliver guest satisfaction and serve traveler's needs. I am sorry you felt shortchanged and your experience was below par to your expectations for our brand. I discussed your comments with the hotel management, who responded with genuine concern for the impact this had on your stay. I raised an alert to address this matter with high importance to ensure our guests' satisfaction and the quality of our service. We value your loyalty, and I hope you will give us another chance to prove that your unsatisfactory stay was an exception, as we elevate your experience and leave you inspired. All the best, Jeraldine R. Case Manager IHGService
