The hotel is right in front of the Kyoto train station. 5 minutes away from the Shinkansen linesa and tons of restaurants and shops in the train station building. The checkin went smoothly since most of the employees speak scholar English. We were given a room on the 9th floor, which was extremely noisy, probably due to the proximity of...

This hotel is conveniently situated opposite the main shopping mall and railway station at Kyoto. You are therefore well placed for local amenities and for transport links to tourist attractions and nearby cities. Of note is that the Kyoto tower is about 2 minutes’ walk away. There is also a Briitish pub about 3 minutes away if you are needing...

This hotel was fabulous! Location was perfect directly across from the JR station. Room had great finishings and was good sized for Japan. Clean, and we'll appointed, staff spoke English and was very friendly and helpful. Everything you could ask for and very reasonable price. I'd recommend and would return. Coffee shops and convenience stores nearby as well. Safe area...

Very nice hotel close to Kyoto station - important to those who continue their trip or arriving by train, but a bit far from Gyon. Rooms are small as in almost every hotel in Japan. Everything else was great. Very clean room, nice bathroom. Service desk is also helping and very polite. Check-in and check-out was very fast. They also...

Kyoto is a city full of magnificent attractions, but that usually means that the value you get for your hotel price goes down. I paid nearly $200 for a tiny room that was barely bigger than the bed. All was clean and neat, but it was certainly not a room you wanted to spend much time in. The staff was...

We have spent 3 weeks in Japan and these rooms are the smallest we have been in. ... And the price is nearly the dearest we stayed in. What makes it worse is that here are 3 single beds in a room taking up all the space. There are no laundry facilities and we have to pay ¥3240 to use...

I check in and out during wee hours so it's very quick. The biggest draw about this hotel is in it's location. Just two minutes walk from the train stations it is very accessible. Also extremely convenient as it has convenient store just across the room. The breakfast is also good - offer both jap style and international buffet, the...

We arrived for a 3 night stay the lobby is beautiful and we were warmly greeted by the front desk. However after receiving our keys for room 941 at the very end of the hallway. I cannot recommend this hotel. The room was filled with mold in the bathroom. The Air was musty, if you don't have a queen bed,...

Good location as the hotel is just opposite Kyoto JR station. A multiple power charging port for iPhones and other phones was provided on the side table. However this is the only good point I can think of. The air con is weak. Room was stuffy especially in warm season. The hotel and rooms need refurbish work.

The New Hankyu Hotel in Kyoto so far was one of the best hotel's we've stayed in. It is across the road from Kyoto Station. The staff were very helpful, friendly and spoke OK English at the reception desk. We stayed there for 4 nights and used this as our base to travel to Gion, Arashiyama, and Fushimi Inari. Wheelchair...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
