My Husband and I stayed here last week and it was a nice hotel. The hospitality of the staff was exceptional! The amount of people that greet you and that are waiting to help you is amazing. The hotel is away from the core of Kyoto but its just a subway down to the inner city. The overall service was...

Room and hotel was beautiful. The reservations to eat in one of the restaurants was a little confusing- clearly empty seats at the buffet but said they were full. After a trip to the front desk they fit us in two hours later. Very helpful staff overall. Only downside is that the hotel is located outside of Kyoto so you...

This hotel is showing its age, but its lovely architecture still shines. The hotel is circular, with large windows and lovely views from each room. The surrounding grounds include a park the central courtyard is a lovely garden space. The ICC is a short walk across the street and this was a great hotel for access to the Kyoto Prize...

We stayed at this hotel because it was across from the ICC which made it convenient to attend a conference there. The hotel staff were first rate, always helpful and spoke English very well. They arranged for us to get group transportation to Osaka international airport at a reasonable price for example. The hotel itself needs updating - some of...

The hotel is very nice. The rooms are spacious (relative to Japanese hotels) and convenient. The team is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffets are rich and tasty. We enjoyed dinner at the Hotel's Japanese restaurant and it was one of the best during our whole stay in Japan. The hotel is quite far from the city centre but...

This hotel is great. The rooms are huge for Japanese standards. Everything is very clean, immaculate. The breakfast buffet is great too. I once had lunch there and that was good too. The hotel bar is pricey though. The staff is extremely friendly. The architecture is nice and has some nice garden around. The location is not very central. But...

The hotel has big rooms and buffet meals so it is very good for a couple and child to share ( my child is a grown up and there was plenty of room. The hotel is next to a subway terminus so it is easy to travel to anywhere, or if fact to the hotel with baggage. On leaving we...

The hotel is situated at the end of the Karasuma line, next to a small lake and close to the Mt. Hiei cable car. The rooms are very large for Japan; mine had a rgeat view of the mountainside. The receptionists and the concierge were extremely helpful in every respect. Where the hotel falls short are (1) the rates which...

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
