This hotel is showing its age, but its lovely architecture still shines. The hotel is circular, with large windows and lovely views from each room. The surrounding grounds include a park the central courtyard is a lovely garden space. The ICC is a short walk across the street and this was a great hotel for access to the Kyoto Prize... More

We stayed at this hotel because it was across from the ICC which made it convenient to attend a conference there. The hotel staff were first rate, always helpful and spoke English very well. They arranged for us to get group transportation to Osaka international airport at a reasonable price for example. The hotel itself needs updating - some of... More

The hotel is very nice. The rooms are spacious (relative to Japanese hotels) and convenient. The team is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffets are rich and tasty. We enjoyed dinner at the Hotel's Japanese restaurant and it was one of the best during our whole stay in Japan. The hotel is quite far from the city centre but... More

This hotel is great. The rooms are huge for Japanese standards. Everything is very clean, immaculate. The breakfast buffet is great too. I once had lunch there and that was good too. The hotel bar is pricey though. The staff is extremely friendly. The architecture is nice and has some nice garden around. The location is not very central. But... More

The hotel has big rooms and buffet meals so it is very good for a couple and child to share ( my child is a grown up and there was plenty of room. The hotel is next to a subway terminus so it is easy to travel to anywhere, or if fact to the hotel with baggage. On leaving we... More

The suite was fantastic two double rooms, living area bar area, even a board room. The hotel is situated at the end of the Karasuma line, next to a small lake and close to the Mt. Hiei cable car. The rooms are very large for Japan; mine had a rgeat view of the mountainside. The receptionists and the concierge were extremely helpful in every respect. Where the hotel falls short are (1) the rates which... More

This hotel is most apt for people visiting kyoto for the ICC. The ICC is right opposite the hotel but due to the huge size of the hotel, it is apprx 15 min walk. The metro station is at a stone's throw and it is a 20 min metro ride to the Kyoto railway station. Opt for twin beds as... More

I cant tell you how peaceful and relaxing it is to stay in this beautiful hotel. I enjoy the scenary of the trees from my hotel window. I feel like living in the middle of a well maintained garden. The hotel is within walking distances to the subway station and other convenience shops.

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
