I booked ten nights here - I have two left. I've stayed in numerous hotels in Kyoto and in various Prince hotels in Japan. The location is great - it's in northern Kyoto away from the city centre and in a secluded forested area. The staff are pretty good as well. However after being spoilt by the luxury of the...

We had just come from a delightful stay at the Prince Sakura Towers Tokyo(stellar stay all around), but this Prince hotel is so old and sad that we left to stay elsewhere in Kyoto, even though we knew we could not get our money back. The lobby has not been redecorated from the 80's or 90's and is worn and...

If you are in city for the conference hall, than it is the perfect choice. Otherwise it's at a good Subway ride from anything in the city, including cafes and restaurants. It has the look of a 70s hotel, but it's understandable, considering it is huge. So hard to redecorate. The low volume music is the hallways adds to the...

We stayed at this hotel while on a tour of Japan. While the staff were extremely nice and ready to assist you with anything, the hotel was quite dated. However since we were out most of the time, my husband and i could overlook that. It is a very convenient hotel located on a main subway line, so it's great...

Before u go "yuk a convention hotel!" Read this. We ended up here because Kyoto was full up during cherry blossom season, and aren't we happy we did! At the end of one of the main tube lines and a 3 minute walk from its exit, we found a tranquil oasis with spacious rooms, courteous service and 70s retro chic...

My Husband and I stayed here last week and it was a nice hotel. The hospitality of the staff was exceptional! The amount of people that greet you and that are waiting to help you is amazing. The hotel is away from the core of Kyoto but its just a subway down to the inner city. The overall service was...

Room and hotel was beautiful. The reservations to eat in one of the restaurants was a little confusing- clearly empty seats at the buffet but said they were full. After a trip to the front desk they fit us in two hours later. Very helpful staff overall. Only downside is that the hotel is located outside of Kyoto so you...

This hotel is showing its age, but its lovely architecture still shines. The hotel is circular, with large windows and lovely views from each room. The surrounding grounds include a park the central courtyard is a lovely garden space. The ICC is a short walk across the street and this was a great hotel for access to the Kyoto Prize...

We stayed at this hotel because it was across from the ICC which made it convenient to attend a conference there. The hotel staff were first rate, always helpful and spoke English very well. They arranged for us to get group transportation to Osaka international airport at a reasonable price for example. The hotel itself needs updating - some of...

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
