Recently returned to this hotel which is at the end of the Karasuma Subway Line, Kokusaikaikan Station which also serves the Kyoto Convention Centre. The hotel is a substantial building in lush grounds and was a design of renowned architect Tojo Murano. Some fittings are aged and need refurbishment, however this doesn't detract from the amenity and room layout. Service...

Grand Prince is an old hotel set amidst a lot of greenery. The rooms are pretty average and since the hotel is quite big it takes a while to get from the room to other places. Extremely slow elevators. The area that the breakfast was served was my favorite part of the stay. Was overlooking trees and a tiny waterfall....

This is a hotel that is really used only by those using the Kyoto Conference Centre. It's a 20 minute train ride from the city centre but only a 5 minute walk to the conference you are attending. It's comfortable, serves a very good breakfast, has excellent staff but somehow you feel it has not yet left the 1980s. Yes,...

Slow elevators and long walk to the rooms. Needs lot of renovations. Slow service and unfriendly staff. Breakfast buffet had limited choices and the location is not central. Only Japanese TV stations and only green tea is provided in the room. No sugar or cream.

Very disappointed with the quality of rooms, service and food. The hotel is old and not well maintained. The buffet breakfast has limited continental choices. Very poor WiFi system. The location is also not very great. Would not recommend.

Stayed 2 nights. A bit out of town. Comfortable rooms, although some require a walk from the elevators. A bit disorganized- when we arrived and at breakfast (which was not as good as other hotels in which we stayed in Japan).

Very disappointed with this hotel. It is very pricey and you don't get the value of your money. The breakfast buffet is not very filling. The food is not varied and you still need to ask the table attendants for sugar substitute because it is not readily available at the tables or at the buffet table. The staff are not...

We stayed here as part of a tour - it is a large business style hotel with meeting rooms and banquet facilities, as well as a bar and several restaurants (somewhat expensive). There is an excellent breakfast buffet on the 1st floor. Hotel is somewhat isolated, a bit of a walk to nearby convenience stores and restaurants; next to a...

We were on a week long tour of Japan and had just a 12 hour stay at the Grand Prince, Kyoto. However while checking out everyone was so disappointed we didn't get to stay here longer. What a charming hotel this was! The property is located in one corner on the outskirts of Kyoto, so if you have work in...

The hotel is round and surrounds a central garden, but unfortunately it was raining during my two night stay so did not get to fully enjoy. My room was spacious, comfortable, and afforded me a good night's sleep.

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
