Arrived on the day there was a typhoon - but location wise was great since the market and other good food places were just a few steps away. Good place to meet other travelers (since I was traveling alone then). Staff was very helpful and...More
From what I remember this hostel was pretty awesome. They had the cutest bunks that looked super old Japanese traditional style. It's pretty clean and spacious. I stayed in an all female dorm. There's also a food/shopping hall just right downstairs. Other than that from...More
This hostel had a great central location with lots of cool stores and restaurants near by. It was very clean. And I loved the capsule style of beds, they were very private and secure. The staff always very friendly and knowledgeable and there was a...More
The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was really exciting. I managed to meet a lot of interesting people from different backgrounds, and at the same time was treated lovingly by the people who worked there. Shouts to Ruka at the front desk, because...More
Had a great stay in a 10 bed dorm here. Beds are within capsules decorated in a Japanese style. Dorms have shared bathrooms that are cleaned daily. Two common areas (lounge + kitchen) plus bar. Staff friendly and very helpful. Handy location too!

Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall
windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.

depending on your preference really. you may want to just book 2 or 3 nights just in case you didn't like the room or bed you were assigned to then you can still move to the next accommodation. But if you are not fussy and can probably fall asleep at a bus stop then book it for the entire stay. there are a quite a few hostels within walking distance to the central area so plenty of choices to choose from. hope this helps. good luck!
