Nice hotel. Good breakfast buffet if it's included in your room. Convenient location very close and walkable to most things that a tourist would want to do in Kyoto. Has washing machines if you need to catch up on your laundry inexpensively while touring. Thanks to Yamada-san at the front desk for a great last minute hard-to-get dining reservation.

Location is great, and close to train station, lots of great places to eat close by. The rooms are clean, we had a standard twin and double, these rooms were very small and the bathrooms were particularly cramped in this hotel. Would recommend this hotel, but would be worth trying to get a larger room. Had an issue with one...

My wife and I spent three nights at the Kyoto Royal Park Hotel in early April. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to Gion, Yasaka Shrine, Nishiki Market, and many shopping streets. The room was modern and well appointed with comfortable beds. Our room was considerably larger than most hotel rooms in Japan, though average sized compared to...

The hotel is in the centre of a shopping district and in walking distance of many restaurants; including a British Pub! Easy 20 minute stroll to the old town. The number 5 bus which takes you to the station is a 2 minute walk (20 minutes). We used the MK Shuttle bus from Kansai which took 1.5 hours but dropped...

I often stay at SPG/Hilton/IHG properties for points-reasons but needed to go outside of that for Kyoto this time. TripAdvisor led me here-- and I was glad! Clean, quick experience for one night and the room was nice and large for Japan, with a beer-vending machine on our floor :) They were quick to help ship our bags to our...

This is an elegant, stylish and quiet hotel at a location that would be hard to beat! 3-5 min walk to two major subway/rail stations, right at a main junction of the Kyoto city bus service and less than 25 min walk from so many great places: Gion district, Nikishi Market, the Kamo River, and countless delicious eateries. It is...

The hotel is in a great location close to public transport links going north/south and east/west. It's also a manageable walk to the man sites. Stylishly, modern decoration. Comfortable, quiet room with good facilities including a proper hairdryer rather than the ridiculous things that are attached to walls in western hotels. A good selection at breakfast. Helpful courteous staff. I'd...

This hotel was perfect. The room is very cozy and convenient. Small yet big enough to be counted as roomy. Toilet is great. Location is amazing. The hotel itself is dark and sexy. There are many restaurants downstairs. Pontocho is close too. I really enjoyed my stay with Royal Park Hotel. It was a little expensive though, but for a...

Most people i know that have been to Kyoto stay at the Westin or the Hyatt. Both were more expensive than the Royal Park and not nearly as well located. If you want to stay in the center of things, choose the Royal Park Hotel instead. It's extremely close to a subway stop and walking distance to Gion and the...

We stayed here for three nights. Convenient location, very close to Nishiki markets, train station, subway and the hub of Kyoto. Hotel service was great and no complaints. Plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby too.

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
