Sasarindou is well located, easily access via Keihan Railway/Subway. It is also close to the tourist spots like Higashiyama and of course Gion. The place is clean, with both breakfast and WIFI provided. Though the layout of the room is a bit weird, it is long with a narrow walkway and it is also rather old. The mattress is a... More

Hotel is located in a charming area of Gion, in an alley that we found easily using a smartphone. The rooms are larger than most business hotels in Japan and it was good value. Tariff included breakfast which catered mostly to Asian tastes but you would have to be the most fastidious of people not to be able to put... More

This hotel is in a great location, close to the traditional centre of Gion. Close access to temples and shrines as well as lots of good restaurants nearby. Close access to metro stations and buses meant easy access to all of Kyoto. Good sized room for Japan, friendly staff (unfortunately very little English), free wifi, good breakfasts and a great... Tucked away on a back street in Gion, this hotel is in a fabulous location, a couple of minutes walk to the Gion shijo station and close to bus stops that will take you to any part of Kyoto. It's a fantastic experience to stay in the heart of Kyotos geisha district, roaming the pretty streets spotting Maikos and Geikos... More

This hotel has large rooms even by North American standards, and one of the best rooms we stayed in while in Japan. However, the room layout is more designed for aesthetics, rather than functionality, so despite the large room size, there is very little closet space or drawers for your luggage. That being said, this hotel is in an excellent... More

The room size is quite big, so as the bathroom. Moreover, it is located just minutes away from Gion tour area such as the cherry blossom scene, famous old streets or the modern busy with all fancy stores and shopping markets. Additionally, just walking distance away from famous landmarks. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very... More

Pros: Location, location, location. In a small silent charming alley in the Gion district (note, Tripadvisor has the wrong location on their maps. Look at some other site e.g. Booking.com). Large rooms with Japanese standards and the de lux rooms actually have a spa with large jacuzzi and some strange sauna/shower installation. Cons: Hard beds and pillows like sand bags... More

Our room was huge, especially for Japanese standard. It was clean, spacious and had a jacuzzi. It had space for a couch and table too. It's in a great location, with amazing restaurants and Geishas walking around (if you're lucky). The breakfast was basic but it worked perfectly fine for me - toast, miso soup and rice to last me... The staff is polite. Our room is big in Japan standard. Besides the basic necessities in a room, it has a sofa & a bathroom with a Jacuzzi enabled bathtub. The only thing is it lacks power socket at more convenient places.

Staying in Gion

Neighbourhood Profile
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
