To be honest for the rate i would have expected a more modern room. the size is fine but it really needs updating. also the windows aren't double glazed so you do get some noise from the streets outside. breakfast is actually quite nice and incudedl in the room rate u like most other places. Gion is the geshia district...

Although the decor is nothing special, the location is incredible, the rooms are a good size, the beds are comfortable, the water pressure in the shower is amazing, and the breakfast is filling. Also, the vending machine in the lobby has beer.

We enjoyed the Sasarindou and excellent location right in the Gion geisha district. Early morning breakfast is in a common dining area down stairs served cafeteria style within 7am to 9am. The huge bathtub and excellent bath amenities (try them!) were very nice. Lots of great shops and restaurants within walking distance, fun at night! It was at the height...

Sasarindou is well located, easily access via Keihan Railway/Subway. It is also close to the tourist spots like Higashiyama and of course Gion. The place is clean, with both breakfast and WIFI provided. Though the layout of the room is a bit weird, it is long with a narrow walkway and it is also rather old. The mattress is a...

Hotel is located in a charming area of Gion, in an alley that we found easily using a smartphone. The rooms are larger than most business hotels in Japan and it was good value. Tariff included breakfast which catered mostly to Asian tastes but you would have to be the most fastidious of people not to be able to put...

This hotel is in a great location, close to the traditional centre of Gion. Close access to temples and shrines as well as lots of good restaurants nearby. Close access to metro stations and buses meant easy access to all of Kyoto. Good sized room for Japan, friendly staff (unfortunately very little English), free wifi, good breakfasts and a great...

Tucked away on a back street in Gion, this hotel is in a fabulous location, a couple of minutes walk to the Gion shijo station and close to bus stops that will take you to any part of Kyoto. It's a fantastic experience to stay in the heart of Kyotos geisha district, roaming the pretty streets spotting Maikos and Geikos...

This hotel has large rooms even by North American standards, and one of the best rooms we stayed in while in Japan. However, the room layout is more designed for aesthetics, rather than functionality, so despite the large room size, there is very little closet space or drawers for your luggage. That being said, this hotel is in an excellent...

The room size is quite big, so as the bathroom. Moreover, it is located just minutes away from Gion tour area such as the cherry blossom scene, famous old streets or the modern busy with all fancy stores and shopping markets. Additionally, just walking distance away from famous landmarks. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very...

Staying in Gion

Neighbourhood Profile
Gion
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
