My partner and I really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful place we really loved it, the room was outstanding much more than what we expected. the staff were very friendly and attentive always available to answer all our questions.I highly recommend for any one who is visiting Tokyo
We are local residents of Kyoto and we were looking for a "stay-cation" place to spend our daughter's 2nd birthday and the Hotel Kanra was incredible. We have travelled all across Japan and have stayed at a variety of hotels, traditional inns and resorts. The Kanra is a nice blend of the comfort of a western hotel with the traditional touches of a Japanese inn. First, it is in a great location, just 10 mins walk from Kyoto station and next to a beautiful temple. The restaurant offered delicious food that we enjoyed for both lunch and breakfast. The rooms are amazing with all the little details to make you really feel like you are in Kyoto too. Even the entrances to the rooms have a beautiful little sand and moss garden to greet you. The beds are super soft and the sinker tub made of cedar is super cool too. The main thing I liked about the stay was the service. They went out of their way to help make our daughter's day special and the service was top quality. I recommend everyone to book this hotel for their stay in Kyoto!…
The hotel staff was wonderful and very helpful. It's a great location close to downtown and the river, perfect for sightseeing. The quality of the amenities are good and really nice bedding. I liked the modern ryokan style that is very unique to Kanra. I will definitely stay there again and recommend it!
A warm and attentive welcome to this very clean and minimalist Japanese ryokan style hotel. It's a short walk from Kyoto railway station and within walking distance of the food market and historic heart of Kyoto. Make sure you have the Japanese breakfast - delicious!
Just got back from our stay at the Hotel Kanra. It's beautiful, as you can see from their website, in a Japanese-style and you feel properly "Kyoto" but as western tourists we also found it very comfortable and we felt at home. Everything is just beautiful, including the room, lobby, café, shop and restaurants. The location's excellent, walking distance from Kyoto station and right next to a subway station and the very impressive Higashi Hongan-ji temple (which lent our room a lovely view!). The room feels properly Japanese, the separate "outside" part with a tiny garden, where you leave your shoes, is a nice touch; the beds are comfortable; the bathroom and wooden tub is impressive; the lighting and the room design in general is beautiful. If there's any downside at all, it's that storage space in the room is extremely limited. Although the room felt large, there weren't many places to put your clothes, bags, etc. But maybe most people don't stay as long as we did, and in any case it feels like nit-picking and certainly wouldn't stop me recommending this hotel. Also, the furniture in the tatami area is very Japanese, and the tea facilities in the room is Kyoto tea only - but we came to love the Japanese feel and enjoyed a smoked tea each afternoon when we got back from a day out. We also made a lot of use of the excellent room service from the Kitchen Kanra restaurant. Special mention must go to the *amazing* staff. When I booked the hotel, I mentioned my wife's serious seafood allergy and the hotel responded with supplementary questions so I felt safe that they really understood. Throughout our stay, it was evident that everyone had been briefed to make sure our meals were safe for her. They also helped us to book an authentic Kyoto restaurant - really going above and beyond to speak to various restaurants and provide us with multiple options - and made sure that they adapted to accommodate my wife's allergy. Finally, our flights home were cancelled, so our 7-night stay became a 9-night stay while we sorted alternative flights but this was accommodated without any fuss at all - the hotel even spent a lot of time on the phone to the airline and local airport trying to resolve the situation for us. The hotel is lovely, but the warmth and capability of the amazing staff really make it exceptional. Highly, highly, recommend.…
Stayed here for 4 nights in early March. Check in was great with a cup of green tea and a warm towel. I was also given a lot of helpful information about Kyoto with great suggestions on things to see and do. Was given a brief overview of the property and shown to my room. The room was fantastic. Super comfortable bed. Nice seating area with tatami floors. Great shower and wooden soaking tub. Felt fancy, but also like home at the same time. I can’t wait to return to hotel kanra in the future!
All from reception to last moment was great at the hotel, very attentive staff at reception and during breakfast. Super comfortable beds, great space in the room, beautifully decorated, very good location close by Kyoto station, buses and metro.
We had a wonderful three-night stay here. Rooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated and staff could not do enough for us. I would definitely stay here again. We were fortunate to receive an upgrade due to a confusion in our booking, but even the standard rooms are spacious.
We recently stayed at Kanra Hotel in Kyoto from Jan 6th - 10th. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this hotel if your staying in Kyoto. Location is excellent, it is a 15 min walk from Kyoto Station. Gojo station is right next door making the subway system close and easily accessible. Nishiki Market is a 20 minute walk from hotel while Chion-in and Kiyomizu-dera is about a 45 minute walk. On a nice day these are quite pleasant walks. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. They took care of making lunch/dinner reservations for us as well as upgrading us to a larger room. The room was clean and super comfortable. The wooden bath was a highlight. The hotel has a wonderful cafe in the lobby that is good for a quick bite or a coffee. Teppan Hanaroku is an excellent restaurant at the hotel. Excellent place to stay if in Kyoto.…
This is a very special hotel. It's walking distance from the train station, a longer walk from the old town and tourist highlights, but the interior of this place is seriously impressive and this should be on anyone's list if you're looking for something lux in Kyoto. We were welcomed warmly and escorted to our room, which was unbelievably beautiful. We only stayed one night and I suspect that more nights would reveal some challenges like a lack of any real bag storage. But the in person experience is nicer than the website images, which makes for a nice surprise! The in-room spa bath and shower is amazing. It's hard to leave the room (especially in winter). Breakfast was nice, too.
