We stayed here for 5 days during sakura season.
The room was a bit run down with minor blemishes on the walls, etc. but it was clean. There's a small electric hot plate, a fridge and a microwave, but we didn't really use it, preferring...More
This was our second stay at this hotel. We came back because we liked it in 2014 and it’s still on our like list this time around. This is a well located, professionally run and comfortable hotel. Each of our stays have been for an...More
Location decent for tube, however if you are arriving with bags on the Shinkansen it is probably easier to grab a taxi for around 1200 yen from Kyoto Central station. Room is spacious (by Japanese standards), however the bathrooms are very small. Good if you...More
This is my second stay in this hotel, and it is really "home" in Kyoto. The location is absolutely excellent! One subway ride and bus ride to Kyoto Station (where one will start any destination). There are a couple of japanese restaurants beside the hotel...More
Stayed in room 702 which faces Main Street; abit noisy for light sleepers. Twin room (studio) was ok but bed super comfy as compared to typical Japanese thin mattress or sofa beds. Non crowded street but access to Nishiki Market, Kiyomizu Temple, Shijo the main...More

Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and
with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

not sure if my answer is too late for you. Taking a taxi to GOJO from KYOTO station is definitely a better idea than the subway if it’s a late arrival or you’ve got heavy luggage’s. From the subway station you still need to walk a little bit from the exit with lift. There’s exit nearest to the hotel, but only stairs. If only hand carried bags with you, taking subway with the stair exit is a good choice as well.
