We stayed in a private room. It was over new years so many places were fully booked already. The staff is nice. Though the room was not clean. It was full of dust and it smelled a bit weird, a bit moldy AC maybe? I asked the staff to clean it, but it kept smelling. They did put air refresher...

you know what to expect when you book a capsule. A tiny room, but confortable enough. I stayed there 9 nights, and I didn't regret it at all. Plenty of things to explore, the proximity with the station allows you to start early or to stay in bed later up to you. The staff makes the difference, they are kind,...

Room is small but all you need! It is cosy and practical. The staff are super friendly and we loved our stay. It is certainly a good base in Kyoto, close to the station and easy to get around. Thanks!

Stayed here for 5 nights in November in one of the twin rooms which is ideal for 1 or 2 people. Clean, tidy, quiet and really handy location for the train station and buses. The room was small - exactly as advertised - comfy bed, plenty of storage space and a fantastic shower. Very helpful staff and useful folder in...

Very close to Kyoto station (follow the directions they send you which is super helpful), easy check-in and check-out, and handy communal kitchenette area with fridge and kettle. Capsule Ryokan Kyoto made a very good base for exploring Kyoto and the surrounding area as train lines and buses are close by and can get you everywhere. Would stay here again!

This is an excellent base for exploring Kyoto, 5 minutes from Kyoto Station and within walking distance of many central districts. It's also well connected with bus stops if you prefer not to walk. I must note that the staff here are so helpful and welcoming! They gave us a small map with helpful directions and restaurant suggestions when we...

Excellent location with great access to major landmarks, Capsule Ryokan is just a stones throw from Kyoto station. There are lots of convenience stores and places to eat near by. The staff were lovely and very, very helpful. The information booklet they provide covers everything from where to eat to visit itineraries. Towels and basic necessities are free. Rooms are...

1.When I checked in a bit late, about 10 pm. I asked the staff on duty named Kazu how to check-in.He just said all the information was in the envelope on the gate , whose attitude and mood seemed impatient . That gave me a bad impression for the first time visiting Kyoto. 2.Capsule room was noisy and crowded, I could...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
