This Ryokan was a huge disappointment for both of us, as we came recommended by a friend who stayed here some years ago and our experience was totally different.
The room we were given was probably the worst in the whole ryokan, the one next...More

Thank you for your honest evaluation.
However, there might be a possible misunderstanding for other trip Advisor user, so please excuse us to explain about that by our side, too, for the fairness.

Perfect for wanting more of a traditional Japanese experience! Welcoming, friendly staff. They had just opened their new bar which was great! Also loved the private open air hot tub outside. Would recommend other travellers to stay here.
My partner and I stayed here some years ago, so when we brought some friends to Kyoto we chose this ryokan again. We find the location convenient and in a very old and interesting part of the city. Our friends were delighted with such a...More

Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

My mother stayed in a single room with a private bathroom, and hers had a toilet, sink, and shower/bath. Her ensuite was identical to my double room's ensuite, so I think it would be safe to assume all rooms with private bathrooms include a toilet.
There is also a toilet in the common area of the hotel, next to the kitchen.

Takkyubin (Black Cat) picks up and delivers anywhere in Japan (very efficiently too!) I'm sure the staff at Nagomi Ryokan Yu would help you book a pick-up and complete the consignment note. They are always very helpful.
