“The Thousand Kyoto hotel” is only 1 minute walk from Kyoto station. The rooms are designed with a simple Zen spirit. I stayed in a deluxe double room on the 9th floor. The room has a very classy design with rich earthy tones and textures. The painting in our room looked like a beautiful sunset and it gave me and the room a relaxing feeling. They have Serta®︎ beds and mattresses that are their own original brand that focuses on providing the ultimate sleeping experience. I had a very comfortable sleep. There was not only a coffee maker with a wide selection of coffees but also a Japanese tea set. If you choose to pay extra, you can purchase one of the bottles of wine, champagne or whiskey from the drink bar and enjoy it thoroughly because the cabinet is stocked with fine stemware and tumblers. There is a large selection of snacks and beverages in the fridge and amenities cabinet that can also be purchased. You control the lighting, curtains, air conditioner, and set an alarm with a tablet by the bedside. On this device, you also have access to YouTube. Bathroom and toilet is separated. The shower room has a very rich feel with stone floors, large bath tub and two shower heads (rain shower and adjustable handheld). There are many impressive art pieces throughout the hotel. “The beauty of nature” is the theme of the art works in the hotel. They are described by using various materials and methods, based on nature and light. The hotel offers a 30-minute art tour at 10am every Wednesday, To participate in it, you are required to make a reservation by 6pm a day before with the front desk or the concierge. After entering the tunnel at the entrance of the Thousand Kyoto hotel, you will find a unique moving art exhibit called “wind-form”. Wind, light and fabric comes together to creates very unexpected delicate form. In their spacious lobby, you will find a grand soaring staircase. The hotel has a wedding chapel for ceremonies and the grand staircase is an amazing place for a photoshoot. Their spa offers an atmosphere of serenity that comforts the five senses with low relaxing light, soft meditative music, pleasant smells, rich textures, and refreshing water. To start your spa experience, you should first shower down in one of their private shower stalls that has a rain shower head, as well as, an adjustable, handheld shower head. The bath area is done in wood, black marble and stone, which has a very rich feel. For male guests, the spa offers two types of saunas, a dry sauna (not available in the women’s spa) and a stone sauna. If you wish to use the stone sauna, you are requested to wear a specific robe and use the towels they provide. The dry sauna has a very pleasant cedar wood smell and soft fluffy towels to sit on, both the upper and lower levels, depending upon the degree of heat that you desire. This sauna is kept at a very good hot temperature so it won’t take long to get you relaxed and sweating. When you have enjoyed the heat enough you can then quickly cool down in the cold bath right next to the sauna door. You will feel very relaxed after doing a few rounds of hot and cold. If soaking in a hot bath is more your style, they also have one of those to enjoy as well. After taking a final rinse in the shower, towel off and help yourself the amenities of the locker room. There are bottles of cold water that you can help yourself to as you blow dry your hair before heading back to your room.I highly recommend that you to spend the extra cost to pamper yourself with this luxury experience.…
I normally stick to 4-5 star hotel chains but there’s not a lot around Kyoto station so we tried The Thousand due to its location and good reviews. The photos in Tripadvisor are not bad either. When we got there, we were very pleased that everything is way better than the photos. The staff are helpful, and the room we stayed in was clean and more than comfortable. Highly recommend this hotel!
The iPad in the room was your personal assistant. It controlled the lights and curtains. It had an room service / housekeeping feature so you could get refills for coffee, fresh towels. The entrance can be a little confusing the first time. KEEP LEFT. If you go right you'll end up in a neighbouring hotel where they will kindly escort you to the correct location.
This hotel is undoubtedly the best in Kyoto. I am a frequent traveller to Japan, and I often stay for a while. Whilst I mainly stay in Tokyo (the Princes Gallery and Peninsula are unmissable) I always make a trip to Kyoto. I tried the Thousand for the first time in 2019 (winter). I chose a large room with a private terrace balcony. Firstly, the whole aesthetic of those hotel is wonderful - very slim, modern and clean. True to Japanese style, it is a wonderful mix of futuristic/modern with traditional Japanese elements. The foyer has an amazing feature/artwork installed. The staff are excellent, welcoming and have excellent English skills (although they were happy to suffer my limited Japanese). The room was spacious, airy and well lit. Very clean. The bathroom was also well stocked and luxurious. The shower and bath were particularly good. I really recommend the private terrace rooms. There is a large private terrace with seating and it is nicely lit. The building is designed so that each balcony/outdoor area is extremely private. The room comes with a tablet that controls all the lights and air conditioning. The room service food was exceptional. I will probably always stay here in future when I visit Kyoto. I stayed for 5 days and it was far too short a visit. すごい!和食は美味いと思います。僕の部屋は大きくてとても綺麗でした。一番ホテルに京都。(私の日本語は下手です!)…
staff and concierge were on the ball, albeit new , we spent 4 nights here , after 2 in a different Kyoto location, breakfast ok, tea welcoming, after a long wintry track, rain, reception, concierge services, eloquent in english, managed to pack a ems box back to london, great location by taxi to the eateries around, very good shabu shabu even at 10 am, in a restaurant
Very new and “stylish” hotel in an ideal location for visiting Kyoto. Top comfort and superb breakfast. Beds fantastic and service typical Japanese, so delightful. Located at the exit of the railway station. What to say more? Book it!
What a beautiful hotel. The entrance is lovely, the staff were really welcoming and the check in procedure was seamless. My room was lovely, some really great touches - pjs, amenities, tea and coffee making etc. Things you'd expect and more. Great location, just off the main road so a little more quiet but access to everywhere is so easy. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Kyoto.
This hotel is amazing. Right by Kyoto Station, stylish Japanese elegance in design, with great artwork and fantastic hotel staff, very friendly and professional. Room was huge by Japanese standards, with a massive bed and fantastic shower and toiletries. Heaps of restaurants nearby.
Enjoyed our 2 night stay with husband and 2 kids 16 and 12. Great set up of room with futons for kids and large beds for us. Loves sitting out on the deck- a small zen garden (watching the bullet trains at the station). Delicious breakfast and tea cafe a must for afternoon tea and yummy cake. Perfect location for Kyoto station. Will definitely stay there again if in Kyoto.
The Thousand has a very impressive lobby. It isn't luxurious but it's very well designed and features some cool art work which softens it a little. You've got to love the Japanese efficiency of the check in and check out process. It's not personal but they are rigid yet polite with adherence to the rules. That said, I cannot rank the Concierge any higher. They were outstandingly helpful with a lost item that was found and returned to me. The care and concern that the staff expressed was beyond the level of service I would hope for. Amazing. I had breakfast included. It was delicious and they offered a lot of options. It was a little cold in there, I can't say how. Maybe it's the incredibly bright lighting? The staff are very efficient but not at all personal. I had a fantastic massage one evening. It was great but the bathhouse is not really a traditional one. It's modern and very clean and well designed, just not that inviting.…
