Located in north side of Kyoto, about 15 minutes to the Golden Pavillion. It's a good option if you want to stay in quite area, avoiding crowded spots. Have good conections to several bus lines that could take you to city center and train stations. (About 30 minutos by bus to Kyoto stations, for instance) Surroundings have plenty options of...

This is a cheap hotel in Kyoto. Of the three hotels I stayed at during my Japan trip, it was the most similar to an American-style hotel. It does have an elevated bathroom with Japanese-style toilet & shower, but other than that, is much like an American hotel, albeit with smaller rooms. The people at the front desk are nice....

The hotel room/Toilet is very small but very convenient. The service was very good, free bicycle rent, free wifi, free computer and printer use. The furniture was good., Kitchenette in the 1st floor and a lot of stores and bus stations nearby.

We enjoyed our stay here. It's good value for expensive Kyoto. It would be great if it were nearer the rail line, but still the bus wasn't much trouble. It's quite close to Kinkakuji and Rionji, but the famous sites on the other side of Kyoto take some time by bus. The rooms were spacious and clean, and wifi strong....

We stayed at Hotel Chrysantheme in May 2015. This humble small hotel has it all. Large, clean room with a view towards northern hills (the room was on the 4th floor), bathroom with ofuro, safety boxes in the lobby, complimentary bicycles, friendly english speaking staff, free wifi, computer and printing, in north of Kyoto close to Kinkakuji. We rode bicycles...

I stayed here in a single room while visiting my sister who was staying at Ritusmeikan University. Small room, but very comfortable, mini fridge, nice bathroom, small but adequate TV. The staff spoke very limited English but were very polite. They were doing some work in the lobby that was a little loud, but not during the night hours, and...

Hotel Chrysantheme, Kyoto: Stayed here in early April 2010 because every hotel I enquired on-line was full; even those by third party agencies. I discovered this place on Google earth by clicking on the accommodation icon and checked its on-line info. It is quite small with reasonable price – 5000 yen pppn. Location: Not bad. Off a busy street just...

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
