Super friendly and helpful staff! The first night I arrived in Kyoto I didn't make any reservation for accommodation and I showed up at J-Hoppers late at night expecting there will be a free bed, unfortunately they didn't but the staff called around and eventually found a near by hostel with an available bed for the night. I stayed there...

Just registered to give some reviews to several of my favorite hotels/hostels. J-Hoppers is one of them. I stayed here for the new year of 2012. I arrived pretty late at night and could not really find the right way, but a super friendly pedestrian guided me to find the right direction. In the morning, it only took about 10...

Stayed at J-Hoppers Kyoto for 4 nights in May 2014 in their Japanese style single room. I love that the hostel is really accessible from the JR Kyoto station and the bus interchange. The free wifi was also helpful. The room was awesome - good air conditioning, nice mini table, clean tatami mats, trash was cleared everyday. There's a Japanese...

J Hoppers is such a haven for backpackers. I stayed in all female dorm and LUCKY ME! I beat the single room for a night as I'm the only occupant in the dorm...as the other guests arrives, there's a curtain that gives you a privacy...sorry I don't mingle...though I always smiles at them. 😝 The (turbo) toilets and baths are...

I have the benefit of staying not only in the Kyoto branch but also at J Hoppers Osaka and J Hoppers Hiroshima. Overall: 1. Everything good you read about them are true 2. Unbeatable value for money and decent location 3. It's not perfect, nothing is, not even 5 stars hotel but it's damn good. I managed to get a...

Really enjoyed our stay here. We booked last minute and the staff were accommodating to our needs, even squeezing us in for extra nights. The staff were beyond helpful and so lovely!!! The location was good, there are hostels closer, but we were happy to walk or bicycle the distance into busy downtown ( about 35min walk). The facilities were...

Location is 15 mins walk from central JR Kyoto line. It is just situated adjacent a main intersection. I would commend on the hostel's professionalism. Upon arrival, I was settled in very quickly and in a very orderly manner: payment, general information, extra services. Also there were many information available on the shelves and desk. Staff was very friendly too....

The price is right, I guess. I mean, it's a youth hostel in one of the most expensive countries in the world. It's not great but it will give you a place to sleep. and in all honesty, if you're in Japan, you will hardly ever stay in your hotel. Right? Service is excellent, room is small but clean. I...

A decent guesthouse with the exception of some factors. It is located at an intersection near Kyoto Station (approx. 10-15 minutes walk). The location is good, but there is not much to see along the way. It can also be a bit of a hassle to reach for those carrying luggages due to the uneven and slanted sidewalk. As for...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
