We spent three nights in Kyoto at this classy almost boutique hotel, and were pleasantly surprised by the top notch service, the modern ambiance and the beautiful and very comfortable rooms. The hotel is located in the middle of the art galleries sector in central Kyoto, a very quiet neighborhood.
Had lunch here recently. Fantastic food in a classy setting with the nicest and most professional staff you could ask for. Price also very reasonable. Cannot recommend this place enough. Western style food and lovely drinks.
Art Mon Zen is an exceptional boutique hotel located in the heart of Gion. Location is perfect to explore Kyoto, with some of the best attractions and restaurants in the city mere steps away. The Executive room we stayed in was very spacious, tastefully furnished and decorated, quiet at night and beautifully bright during the day thanks to the floor to ceiling windows. The bed was very large and extremely comfortable and the air conditioning whisper silent and effective. The bathroom included a supersized high pressure rain shower and a Jacuzzi. Service was exceptionally good even by Japanese standards. All the staff was incredibly attentive, helpful and gracious. We only had breakfast at the hotel once (so many options around it seems a shame to stick to the same every morning). The food was good but not a lot of choice, it would get samey over time. A buffet breakfast with milk and cereal, fresh fruit and some pastries would be a good idea. Overall, not sure why this is classed as a 3 star hotel, when the comfort and beauty of the room and the exceptionally high level of service could easily grant it a 5 star rating. We couldn't have been happier with the choice of our Kyoto hotel!…
My wife and I recently stayed in this beautiful hotel. The rooms are stunning (and huge by Japanese standards). The location in Gion is perfect - a tranquil spot but close to all of the action in this historic precinct. The hotel is very small but luxurious. The staff were wonderful - warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. They made us feel very special during our stay. Also the lavish breakfasts were first class, served in beautiful, tranquil surroundings. We loved this hotel and its staff. If we are fortunate enough to return to Kyoto we will definitely stay there again.
I really wanted to give the property 5 star +++ (will come back to that in a bit). The service is so attentive (helpful is everyday), the breakfast was delicious and super fresh (the yoghurt, the fruit salad and poached eggs superb), the room was very large and really beautifully appointed (super large bed and so comfortable, gorgeous linens), perfect location (5-7 minute walk to Gion and on a beautiful street with art shops etc). Unfortunately I was given Room 101 which was backed right up to the building next door (same for 102) - with only a slither of sky light (despite the super sized windows). I would definitely return and highly recommend - just be careful on room.
This is a new hotel right in the middle of Gion and conveniently located to sights, restaurants and public transportation. Staff was friendly and welcoming and did their best to handle and address all requests. The room was lovely and quite large even by US standards. The Hollywood bed is just awesome, one and a half times the size of a regular king size bed and with puffy pillows and duvet. The decor is super contemporary while incorporating traditional Japanese art work. They provide pajamas and nice bathrobes plus there was a giant jacuzzi bathtub, which was great after long days of sightseeing. We were very comfortable during our stay and would certainly return. My only one suggestion would be to change the breakfast program. We left early for sightseeing each day to get a jump on the crowds during this peak season and the hotel was not able to accommodate even continental breakfast before 8 am, which was a bit surprising. Also, although the hotel is very expensive, breakfast was not included with continental breakfast charged at about $20 and American breakfast being charged at more than $40 per person. I think a simple buffet breakfast included in the price would get more people into the dining room and would make the hotel more appealing. …
We stayed here for 5 nights. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. Our room was extremely nice and very comfortable. It was light and airy feeling and very spacious. The bed was great, and so comfortable. The hotel is in a quiet street so it was very peaceful at night. The location is perfect for exploring Kyoto, the sites, restaurants and shops are all nearby. Our rate in included breakfast. You are not offered any options for breakfast, you just have what they bring on a tray which was the same every day of our stay. It would have been nice to have some options to choose from. Having said that we would definitely stay here again but would not choose a rate which includes breakfast.
I spent 5 nights at this high end boutique hotel located on a quiet street lined with small art galleries and shops. And loved every minute of it! The hotel is a short walk from the Sanjo Keihan station. Gion, temples, shrines, restaurants, bars and shopping are all within easy walking distance. The hotel beautifully presents the modern Japanese design aesthetic. My room was large and beautifully furnished with luxurious furniture and bedding. Everything in my room was presented with the greatest attention to detail for my comfort and enjoyment. Immaculate goes without saying. The WC had the latest in washlets – part toilet, part bidet with heated seat and many other settings including soft lighting for those middle of the night trips to the bathroom; the separate shower was spacious and the jetted bathtub was a welcome respite after a full days of sightseeing. My reservation included breakfast that came with a number of healthy and delicious choices served by the attentive kitchen staff. Hotel staff were welcoming and helpful whenever anything was needed. It’s not really a big deal but being able to get at least one news channel in English would have been a nice addition.…
I'll start off by pointing out the ONLY thing that wasn't beyond excellent, and that is the juice served at breakfast. Ok, now that's out of the way, I'll get down to the serious stuff. 1) The Room : Beautiful, very clean, very comfortable... seriously the best bed I've ever slept in. Ours was the Hollywood style... and yes, do this, it's amazing. Comfortable. HUGE. Comfortable. The bathroom was clean, the tub big and modern. The entire room was spotless every day. 2) The Staff. My partner and I were there during the recent heavy rains, and after the first day, the staff provided us standard umbrellas. After the second day, they provided us with extra large umbrellas. What's so amazing about this is that we never once asked for umbrellas (we had brought rain jackets), but the staff were very proactive and went out of their way, not only to get them for us, but to get some that would accommodate our camera bags and cameras as well. Further, they were always smiling, always helpful, and always gracious. When we checked out, they arranged a taxi and then bid us farewell as a group (not normally into great displays, but it really made us feel like we were VIP's and we weren't even in the penthouse). Overall, they are some of the most professional and proactive hotel staff we've ever encountered anywhere.…
The bed is HOLLYWOOD size. Really big! The room is gorgeous. The hotel is gorgeous. The staff is 110% helpful. Everything about this hotel is an 11 on a scale of 1-10. They fed us so well. I can't describe how happy we were to be here. It's in a perfect location. if you can afford this. BOOK IT. There is NOTHING better. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!
