My family booked a room that could cater to 4 pax. Unfortunately my wife had a bad dream on the 1st night and a nightmare on the 2nd night. We decided to shift our room on the 3rd night. The shifting didn't help much and we decided to pay the penalty for the 4th night. It cost us around $300/-....

We stayed for two nights at this large ryokan and had a most enjoyable experience. We had the standard twin room which which was spotless and perfectly cosy despite having slightly dated decor. As a non-smoker I was concerned that the room may smell since smoking is permitted, but this was absolutely not the case, hats off to the staff....

Greatly enjoyed our stay at Ryokan Nenrinbo. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is on the North-East edge of Kyoto which makes it great for Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion) and the other temples in this area. They provide good shuttle service to a local bus/subway station which make connection to the rest of Kyoto fairly easy. Google...

Wonderful royokan in lovely Kyoto. There is a shuttle which will pick you up. I missed it but it only cost 1200 yen to take a taxi. The room was so cool and the onsen was relaxing. Do your research on etiquette in an onsen. Delicious authentic Japanese breakfast. Do your research on tipping culture in Japan. Remember to bring...

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
