The Kobe Kitano Hotel is an interesting blend of traditonal, almost quaint, and modern. A small hotel with a big heart! We have both stayed and dined there before, and no doubt will do so again. The staff are typically courteous and helpful (this is Japan!), and their French restaurant, Ash, always excellent. The Deluxe Twin room we had was nicely appointed, and the beds very comfortable, though the lighting system requires a degree in electrical engineering to work out! But not a problem. I agree with bixierg's comment regarding the breakfast now compared to a few years ago (though I was offered scrambed eggs as an alternative to their signature boiled egg), but then after a superb meal the night before, a lighter breakfast would be more than adequate.

Thank you sir for your lovely comment. We do our best to make our customers feels 'at home' in our hotel. Thank you for sharing your opinion about the lights and the breakfast also, the world's best breakfast is actually our most imposant breakfast. We also propose lighter ones called 'continental' which is the ligther we have, or may i recommand you the 'hyogolaise' which is using mainly ingredients from the prefecture of Hyogo and is a bit lighter than the world's best breakfast. Maybe for your next stay ? We are looking forward to recieve you again. Best Regards, Kobe Kitano hotel Team

After having visited here in September I returned together with my wife. The room and the service is still outstanding. Everything is very personal. Reason for my second review here is the breakfast. They claim themselves to have the best breakfast in the world. Well, I disagree. Sorry to say but every five-star hotel in China has a better breakfast. Here, you don’t have any cheese, no coffee alternatives like cappuccino and the coffee they serve by the pot. You don’t have the choice for any fresh egg specialties like egg Benedict, or scrambled eggs. The small fruit filet they serve is fresh but you don’t have a choice from a fruit selection. You don’t have any options for a second croissant or any sweets. For Japanese standards of course a very good western breakfast but not worth the big money they charge. They claim reminds me about Ikarus flying too close to the sun. Besides the breakfast, still very recommendable to stay here.

Complaining in this hotel means not having understood hospitality. Extremely friendly and polite staff, spacious rooms with all amenities you need. Quiet and of course clean. It is a very old traditional style hotel with “grand hotel” service and English touch furniture. The hotel only offers 30 rooms making it extremely personable. If you prefer modern Bauhaus design or interior go to a design hotel. The hotel can be very reasonable if you booked via adequate booking sites. In my case the price performance what’s excellent. It was my first stay in this hotel but I will be back. Had dinner with friends in the French restaurant. Absolutely top class. Not cheap though.

I am booked for the night of September 26, 2019. I have sent several e-mails to the hotel asking the concierges there to try to get me a restaurant reservation. The one reply I received several days ago only refers to my checking in. I even sent the hotel a screen shot from a restaurant website giving the particulars of the restaurant I want to visit. No word from the hotel about such matters as perhaps the restaurant isn't taking reservations for my date yet or that the restaurant is booked and would you like us to book another restaurant. The hotel is a member of Relais Chateaux, but you would never know it.

We stayed 2 nights in this very nice hotel in Kobe. The chef-owner was very gracious and charming. The food was outstanding - most notably the breakfast (best in the world!). This is a western-style hotel with a French flair. I would definitely go back. Highly recommend it.

We have been travelling all through Japan and this hotel was the most expensive and least enjoyable we experienced in Japan. It was to be a treat as we expected opulence. The room with a double bed which was actually a lovely large king bed filled up 1/3 of the room. The rest of the furnishings included 2 massive side chairs, 2 night tables, 3 side tables a tv cabinet and s small closet. Cluttered!!!! No Room for suitcases. We had to turn the chairs and shove them together to put our cases on just to be able to get around. Location is good but a good 15 minute walk anywhere. Quiet though which was nice. Irritations: - they made sure that we couldn’t get in to our room until 3:00. - No English Channels. Usually you at least get CNN. -No newspaper - Breakfast outrageously expensive at $5200 yen ($60) - Rooms $350 for old furnishings. - coffee machine that overfills cups. Unfortunately the hotel is riding on its luxury past. Now it’s over priced, under valued. Disappointment.

This is a place I have wanted to stay at for years, since before we even came to Japan for the first time and it took our third visit for us to finally make it here. That was in part because the Relais & Chateaux website does not offer availability far enough in advance for a trip planned months ahead - something I finally realised Booking.com were happy to rectify. So Kobe made the itinerary this time around and I am delighted to report that generally speaking the Kobe Kitano lives up to its exalted reputation. It's a reputation built on tradition, timeless elegance, great service and, of course, food. At one point in time the Kitano held 3 Michelin Stars and while these seem to have gone now, the prices in 'AF' restaurant don't seem to have been adjusted accordingly and dinner there cost us comfortably more than staying B&B in a Deluxe room. While dinner was very good it didn't warrant the price tag and it would have been enhanced (in experience and probably price!) with the option of a wine pairing. Copies of the menu to keep would also have been a nice touch too but on a positive note, the ambiance and service were both excellent. Our room was lovely. Spacious, well equipped with a pleasant balcony and a hydrotherapy Japanese (think short but deep) bath. It had something of a Country House hotel vibe about it but that wasn't as incongruous as it sounds. It was a really pleasant place to spend some time with much more character than many Japanese hotels. The breakfast is worth a mention too as others have noted and it's not as over-facing as you think when the entire table is filled with trays laden down with what constitutes the 'Kitano take, on a Continental breakfast. Suffice to say I enjoyed the flight of juices more than the 'Pot au Faux' (which has no place on a breakfast table anywhere) but apart from that one rogue ingredient, everything else was great. In summary the reality, in the main, lived up to the expectations and we would happily stay at the Kitano again. As a hotel it is lovely and we'd probably stay for longer next time, allowing us to spend more time in what turned out to be one of Japan's most interesting cities. And trying a few more restaurants.

We arrived at the hotel near 10 o'clock at night. We would like to eat light snack, ordered two glasses of wine, cheese and dried- fruits at the bar. Two dishes were decorated with flower petals, looked very beautiful. Especially, blue cheese with chestnut honey, mimolette with fruits were excellent flavor. Next night, We enjoyed the dinner at the main restaurant. We had lots of fan. Before eating, we showed live omar shrimp, grabbed by a stuff. The soup cup Looked like tiny goldfish basin. This glass cup appeared covered delicious biscuit . We found tiny green ball in clear soup. Octopus dish served with dried cucumber sauce which cooled with liquid nitrogen. A stuff sprinkled powder by table spoon on the dish. These sauce powder changed light green liquid sauce. Foie gras was entered the box. when the stuff opened a cover, rose smoke. We ate Foie gras with dessert wine. They were good combination. Those performances were astonished and fan. We received a good service and taste.

I've stayed 1 night with my friend, and it's exceptionally great experience. The staff were greatly attentive and friendly, and they knows a lot about Kobe town. The room has heavenly comfortable bed and the bubble bath tub. The atmosphere has blend of classic old taste and modern. I like the most was breakfast here. Every plate they server was extraordinary tasty and the presentation was beautiful. I definitely come back this hotel when we stay in Kobe again.
