On the plus side, the hotel is conveniently located a short walk from Hyogo Station. Check in was fast, albeit the staff were not particularly friendly. But that is the end of the pluses.... The carpet in each of the lifts was disgusting, which didn’t bode well for the cleanliness of the hotel. When we arrived at the room, the carpet in the room was also stained, and the non smoking room we booked had a distinct smell of stale smoke. The room itself was small, but that was fine.... Overall I would be slow to recommend this hotel.
The Luminous Hotel Sannomiya is a excellently located, new/modern, affordable hotel. Though the rooms are rather small, they are nicely appointed, and the bathrooms are super functional. There are literally hundreds of restaurants within walking distance, along with shopping arcades and stores of all types. The hotel has a coin laundry for those planning an extended stay. My only demerit is insanely expensive/limited parking, and priced seperately, the breakfast buffet is expensive, and oddly flavorless.
Finding a hotel for our two nights in Kobe proved more difficult than expected, so we had to cast the net a little more widely. In doing so, we found the Kobe Luminous Hotel, a few minutes’ walk from Hyogo station to the south west of the city centre. Our room was small (we had to move the coffee table out of the way to both sit down!), but reasonably equipped and clean. Breakfast was very hectic both mornings, and the staff seemed unable to maintain the stocks of food. As such, it was a bit of a gamble each time you visited the buffet, as you often had to pick what was there, rather than what you might have wanted. The laundry facilities were located in a shed-like structure outside in the car park, which didn’t make for the most enjoyable usage, especially when the dryer took multiple cycles to dry the clothes. On the upside, it was only a few minutes’ walk to JR Hyogo Station, which has a couple of decent supermarkets immediately on the opposite side. The staff were cheerful enough at check in/out, gladly looking after our luggage when we arrived early, but you got the feeling that the hotel needs a little investment. It certainly suffered in comparison to similarly-priced hotels elsewhere on our visit.…
This is not a language issue. They just don't care. There was a large group of about 8 rooms booked. Some people booked direct and the hotel tried to charge them more than you can look it for at Booking.com . When this was mentioned they tried to throw them out. House keeping serviced our room one day and forgot to shut the door after. We were out for the day and came home to our door open with a wedge under it. Like that all day. Luckily nothing g was stolen. Don't stay here....
First of all, I’m a bit surprised to read about bad review and old rooms and hotel. Stayed here for 6 nights for business in Kobe. Checked in, and my room was on the 9th floor. Good view, large and very pleasant. I called ahead to make sure that I got a real non-smoking room as I have an allergy. I always do that, and believe it works should you hate the smell of smoke. Bed was pleasantly big, I would say a semi double. Room and bathroom was big by Japanese standards too, (I’ve stayed in quite a few). Hotel is not so far from the bright lights of Sannomiya and about 3 minutes walk to Hyogo Station. Everything is accessible from there. Lots of restaurants and places to buy things close to the hotel. They have a coin laundry with 3 machines and 3 dryers just outside in the car park. Detergent can be obtained free, from reception. The washers are ¥200 and the dryers ¥100 per 30 minutes. Breakfast is plentiful and a combination of Japanese and Western. After 5 days, I’d had enough, basically the same food everyday. Breakfast staff generally friendly, but I had an incident with an elderly Japanese member off staff, who was incredibly rude to me. I speak Japanese and she was rude, disappointing. Something a little odd about this hotel. Everyday, I returned around 3:30 in the afternoon and my room still was not cleaned on 2 occasions. Mentioned it to the staff, and the issue was resolved. Think some of the staff speak English but didn’t try. Bedroom walls are not the thickest and the door doesn’t keep out the noisy neighbors. Would I stay here again? Probably, I paid for an extra night after my work as it was cheap and good. Rates go up on a Saturday night, double the price. Tip: There’s a lovely bakery close to “Daikai” subway station if you turn right out of the hotel, walk straight, get to the station entrance and you will see it close by, named “revolted”. Nice pastries and sandwiches to take away should you need. Also, there’s a restaurant called “Osho” right next to the hotel, they do good fried dumplings and have a picture menu. Check out the “Okonomiyaki” restaurant round the corner as well. Out the hotel, turn left, go one block, left again. Enjoy.…
This hotel's location is very near to the JR station just 3 minutes walking distance. Staffs are very good. It seems a little bit expensive and old hotel. Room and bathroom amenities were satisfactory.
It is an older hotel. You can see the age when you walk in the lobby. The rooms are spacious but dated. The good part is that it is very close to the train station. Also there are a few good restaurants nearby.
The hotel location is very well situated a short walk from the JR station. There's a convenience and grocery store nearby. I was put in a nonsmoking room but could smell smoke as soon as I got off the elevator. The smell continued as I discovered there was a smoker next door. It lasted until the smoker checked out two days later. Also, the AC doesn't work well and the thermostat will only go down to 22C(is locked by the hotel) but feels hotter. Glad the weather was cooler so I was able to crack the window. Hotel needs to be updated.... carpet in the elevator looked really bad. Room was as described with the normal items... small frig, TV, etc. WiFi is very excellent. Hotel staff is helpful but not as friendly as the usual Japanese I've come to admire.
spent 3 nights here in this cozy hotel. it has a good location, walking distance to the train station and convenience stores and has restaurants nearby. it has a small but compact and comfy room. room was cleaned everyday and i specially love the heated toilet seat. the breakfast buffet has limited choices though.
I have started to think that the cleaners here play a game of find the previous guest's bottle. A previous reviewer mentioned finding a used soft drink bottle in their fridge - and so did we! It got me worried about what else the cleaners had missed during their daily cleaning routine. Apart from this incident, the hotel was functional and a useful base for exploring Kobe - the hotel is a 200m walk from the JR line (2 stops to the city).
